If you want a quick and dirty; Sport Compact Car ran a series a while back on turbocharging. It was very good. Also, turbonetics has some good info. The keys here is compressor surge, how much boost you plan on running, how much air your engine moves naturally aspirated, and how to calculate pressur...

If you want, you can cut out a section to length and use two couplings and four clamps until you get it welded. That way you can hear what it will sound like with stock exhaust. For exhaust couplings, I find that autozone has a good selection (unlike most things there) of clamps in all sizes. I plan...

Also, Mazda never officially recommended synthetics for any of there piston powered engines in the 90s IIRC... so as always, YMMV ;) Castrol DID make an excellent Syntec oil called "german castrol". It was actually made in Germany, colored green, smelled funny like gummi worms, and was com...

Wait, the DE can have KL31-1A1 / 101 on the heads too? Then how can you tell a ZE from a DE other than compression test or looking at the piston heads? pop open the front valve cover and look at the cams Nope not always. The ZE can have KL01 cams as well. Only recourse here would be a compression c...

Kinda funny how 2 engines at different HP ratings produce more torque. Cool thing about torque it's just what gets that damn car moving. horse power is what gives you the top end. You could have all the torque in the world and like 50 HP and you won't do jack squat and vice versa. Both KLs are rate...

It's a fact: Due to the lower compression, the DE will support higher boost at lower RPM. IMO Mileage is irrelevant, but condition of engine is what I would go by. I can get a DE from an Automatic MX6 for $120 locally if I pull it myself. I looked under the VC and it's clean, just like a ZE might be...

There are 3 types of ZE's out there...ranging from 180-210hp One is 180-5, 190-5,200-210. The high end KL-ZE has a long straight neck. the mids tend to have the millenia bent or short straight neck, and the low end is bent as well....not too sure on any identify marks on intake. The straight necks ...

Get a bottle of Seafoam and try to clean the intake. Make sure you let it soak for at least an hour. Also, make sure your EGR is functioning. What? No EGR on KLZE? then you are going to have to make sure your tune is * perfect *. I am just glad they went to OBD-II only emissions in my state this yea...

Unless you want to lose torque, I wouldn't change exhaust diameter on a stock car. And by stock, I mean stock heads, exhaust manifolds, stock intake manifold. Mandrel bends will flow up to 30% more over the same diameter crush-bent pipe. So if you want to replace something, get a 2.0 inch mandrel be...

Find a pull-a-part junkyard with a Millenia and get one for $15. :D I was fortunate, and bought a whole curve-neck intake on ebay for $75 with TB and injectors....at that price I guess I'll hang on to the TB  The pullapart yard here in Charlotte never has millenias but other locations have at...

For the money, I think I will buy the SSA headers, get them sandblasted, and get them ceramic coated myself. It'll still be cheaper than the hotshots and nearly as good. If they really add 15 HP to a stock KLDE, then it's one of the all time best bangs for the buck.

DUDE, check your filter mating surface to see if you have an OLD oil filter gasket stuck on there. This is a common problem. Find your leak before you take such drastic measures! :( sounds like it is time to go to a klze. the head gasket are worn if your car leaks oil while warming up. if it burns o...

The difference in all oils is marketing mostly. American Petroleum Institute has guidelines that all manufactures go by when they recommend an oil. Our KL motors recommend a SF rated oil IIRC. That is ancient technology. We are already past SL rated to SM which is excellent conventional motor oils i...

SPEC!
http://www.specclutch.com

I suggest the Stage 2+ or Stage 3+ depending on your power level.

Cheaper and better than CM, holds more power than CF

Plus, it's built in the south so it's got to be better :)
