Hey, I read this whole thread and I did not see anywhere that the coolant was added to the radiator to fill it back up. I know it goes whithout saying, but you never know. I would filler up with coolant and take a nice drive while checking for further symptoms. If everything looks good check...

How much did it advance? Mine is quite steady when in diag mode and jumps a bit when in normal mode. But always at about 10° with engine totally warmed up, no accessories and idling at aprox 700 RPM.

It should not advance a lot. check the idle.

XxantwawnxX wrote:My timing was correct btw. Checked it out today. Was kinda hoping it was off so i could get some better gas miliage.
LOL... talk about luck. Or did you check it without jumping the ECU? Just kidding.

I'm going to go look at the car this week. Thanks for the info.

LOL. How many MX-3's do you have? I may be picking one up soon if the price is right. How much do you think a 93 GS with nice interior and exterior, but failed auto trany is worth? If I end up buying it I'll have to covert it to MTX maybe an MX6 trany and ZE?

That's because you never check the timing. Just kidding.

It did a bit better on gas mileage. But it will make a big difference once I replace the O2 sensors. They have 186,000 miles on them.

Hey Pat.

Indeed :!: It barely made it to 10° I ended up taking the large washer out. I'm still wondering why these distys set at the extreme end insted of in the center range like the OEM?

If anyone else has/had this condition with an Autozone disty let me know.

Juans_93_MX3 I bet you did not expect to open a can of worms when you posted this thread. I hope you enjoyed the discussion and found it helpful as well. XxantwawnxX a few degrees off should be OK. For about a year or more and up to last week I was driving around with only 7° of base timing u...

HEHE i knew all of that. Although putting it in feet to explain it was a good idea. Wise arse :!: It sure didn't sound like it by your posts. I'm glad I was able to get the point across. Thanks for the half compliment. Stick around kid there is a lot to learn. BTW I see you joined here Jan 8th. on ...

I only do 4000 RPM at 80 MPH - K8 V6, Standard wheels and manual 5 speed trany.

I wish I could get a 1996 V6 here in Connecticut.

Congrats and good luck with your new purchase!

So, take out my disty, mark it. Then when I put it in, I dont have to worry about timing or anything as long as I put at on the marked spot. Correct? Assuming that the base timing is set correctly to begin with. Yes, mark a reference point on the engine and disty before you move it. Align the marks...

hgallegos915, sort of makes sense ( the strange part on the old K8 ) Good advice, a check up can't hurt. XxantwawnxX, If you set the timing as per shop repair manual you will have the full range in timing which the ECU will calculate and vary timing needed as needed in reference to all input informa...

i checked..when ten and ground were not jumpered timing did not move at all.. strange... What's strange? That the ECU compensated for the change in timing while in closed loop mode? That's not stange at all. it's normal. The timing did change but the ECU compensated for the change based on the read...

You're not going crazy. A little confused maybe because this is confusing stuff! And I'd prefer if you'd call it a discussion instead of "banter" After all that's all it is! You dont have to adjust base timing if you take the disty off ad put it back on. You almost had it right. It should ...
