Yes, its normal to have have white smoke when the engine is cold but if it's water than the smoke wil disapear verry quick when leaving the muffler.
If it's hanging in the air for a long time than it's oil.

Well, I think egr is not required but the c02 should be below 4%.
If the EGR is the solution for that than I prefer running the EGR.
I hope you have some other options because I dont want to run my k8 ecu.

Lol<p>I have the shop manual. Actually I'm not doing the swap my self. An expert is doing it. Now i'm trying to find out what he is doing. I just read the manual but it is not realy clear about the EGR. The problem is that my english is verry bad. All the terms you guys use over here are totaly diff...

I also think it are the piston rings. After 100.000 km I had it also. I'm don't know how to say it in english but there will be a sort stone on the pistons. This should be removed or the piston rubbers should be replaced. There is a liquid wich you can add to your oil. This stuff might solve the pro...

It is hard to see were you point at. Do you mean between the hoses ? David is right, on that point is also a engine mount. and the waterpump is realy close.
