No it's not normal, I have never had that happen to me, especially jump by 200 RPM. It's normal for the RPM to drop by 50 RPM when you put it in gear because the motor is now under load.

Your battery is only for starting the car, once the motor is started the alternator provides your electrical power, as you start requiring more electrical power (lights, A/C,etc) the more the alternator will provide. So I would say your alternator is going.

I bought a pair of rear KYB GR2 struts. They both are identical, with a little 'R' stamped on them. Don't I need one for the right and one for the left side of the car?. The bracket that is hanging off the side of the strut where the brake line attaches, would not work for the Left side because it's...

It could also be your clutch line sprung a leak and the fluid is gone. That's what happened to me a few weeks ago. Had to replace the clutch line.
