Louding Ticking only on when cold
Hi guys. I havent been on the site for a while because I had to move form Canada back home. I am now in the process of getting my car ready to go back on the road. I was just wondering, I put in a KLZE last summer and I noticed that whenever I go to start the car after its been sitting for a while, i.e when its cold, there is a really loud ticking noise but as soon as it warms up it goes away. Any ideas on what it may be? Thanks

when the oil is cold and thick your lifters will tick a bit

Re: Louding Ticking only on when cold
You can try to clean them which may quiet them some. Try the one at www.Auto-RX.com Expensive, but is gentle, and stays in the system for a couple thousand miles.
Then, after that, you can try messing with different oils like sythetic vs. dinosaur and different brands and different viscocities. Most in cold areas go 5W-30.

I have used Auto-RX and let me tell you, this stuff is miraculous. Quieter valvetrain, seals leaks (as long as your seals aren't torn), more MPG and longer engine life...
Go with Valvoline Maxlife after the treatment(s) for a few thousand and your engine will be sparkling inside....
10W30 in summer, 5W30 in winter
that's for everywhere except Canada and Alaska...

Re: Louding Ticking only on when cold
whats wrong with 10w-30 in the summer and 5w-30 in the winter in canada??
Re: Louding Ticking only on when cold
I would likely run 5W30 all year long in climates that average below that of more moderate climates such as where I live in North Carolina. Here our summers avg 90+ degrees F and our winters never get below 10 degrees F so I run 10W30 in summertime...Originally posted by Jon_Carnie:
