Stalls when cold (but not really cold)
Hi all, I have a 1.6 DOHC auto MX3 and my problen is, I start the car, it starts fine. I put into gear and car either just managers to keep on going or stalls. If its really cold the car starts fine and its fine once the engine has warmed up. Its like on an old manual choke car, if you don't have en...

Re: B6 1.6 DOHC Cam timing marks
Grateful thanks, the video was extreemly useful and I've now completed my cambelt change. The old one wasn't in bad shape but it had been on the car since 1995, so has served it well (car only has 56K miles though). The most stupid thing I did was mix up the alternator and power steering belt and th...

B6 1.6 DOHC Cam timing marks
Hi all, I am replacing my cambelt at 60k and all was going well until I came to put the new belt on. The Cam timing marks are not clear in the manual and I can't seem to line them up correctly. Mine is the model where the whole rocker cover comes off, so the timing marks are set with the back plate ...

Perished rear shock boots - Quick fix in situ.
Hi, This might be of use if your rear shock absorber rubber boots have perished. Mine had split into the bump stop (top) and bottom, with the middle part split inot seperate rings of rubber. I got the idea from my fathers car (Haiundia Matrix front shock boots). His has just outer sleaves over the s...

Re: B6 1.6 4C DOHC - Whats the correct coolant draiing proce
Thanks everyone.
BTW you have to watch for how much air is still to be evacuated. After a run the expansion tank was down to the low level, even though I had had it running and followed the manual to bleed the system. Since topping up everythings been fine.

PVC valve
Hi, My car (1.6 auto) occasionally struggles to pick up revs and I've never been able to fix it, as mostly it's fine. Hovever I decided to check the PVC valve. I noticed that the valve rattles (you can hear the ball bearing inside it when you shake it) and when I blow through it, sometimes the ball ...

B6 1.6 4C DOHC - Whats the correct coolant draiing procedure
Hi all, I followed the procedure in the on-line manual to drain the coolant. The manual says 6.0L capacity vut I only got about 3.5L out. The manual just says drain at the radiator, but I'm wondering if theres a drain plug for the engine block that needs to be drained too. Is there something that I'...

Rear caliper top bolt of slider, torque required
Hi all, I replaced my rear pads (1.6 Auto MX3 1997my) at the weekend as one had siezed in the caliper slide and the pads wore unevenly (nowfree and lubricated) . The workshop manual I have was for the 323 and the calipers appeared to be different, only the top bolt was removable and I had to undo th...

Re: B6 DOHC 1.6 starting issue
Hi, The engine was cranking over on the start just fine (nothing wrong withthe starter), it just refused to fire. The immobiliser light worked as normal, so it wasnt immobilised. Almost like it hadrun out of petrol (as after much cranking there wasn't a strong smell of fuel). After many hours when i...

B6 DOHC 1.6 starting issue
HI all, My car starts fine and the day before I had started it twice, unless, as happened jesterday, I turned the key and it slipped out of my hand, the starter turned the car over but did not have time to start it. Then afterwards the car refused to start. I disconnected the battery, checked the ro...

Re: Car immobilised
Hi Guys, I've made a bit of progress. The immobiliser unit is made by Temic and is also on the UK 323,626 and MX5. I left the battery disconnected overnight then reconnected it. I have 2 keys, the black standard one and the grey vallet key. I used the black key and after 6 on-offs of the ignition ke...

Car immobilised
Disaster has struck. I fittted an alarm at the weekend and on reconnecting the battery, the factory fit immobiliser has immobilised the car. The yellow "key" light came on the first time I tried to start the car, then flashed, as if it didn't recognise the key, then stalled the engine. Now...

Re: Occasionally doesn't accelerate for a few seconds. Scary
Hi and no, all I've checked is the throttle position sensor which is ok and adjusted ok. Being as the cars fine once warm, or when cold (first started, fast idle), I thought that they might be ok. I was wondering if theres some sort of inlet air temperature sensor or water temp sensor that could be ...

Occasionally doesn't accelerate for a few seconds. Scary
Hi, I have a strange problem with my car. When the car is first started and I pull away, the car accelerates normally. When the car is at normal temperature it also accelerates normally, but just after starting, as the car is warming up, sometimes when I go to pull away, there is no acceleration for...
