Stalls when cold (but not really cold)

Post by kstarb123 »

Hi all,

I have a 1.6 DOHC auto MX3 and my problen is, I start the car, it starts fine. I put into gear and car either just managers to keep on going or stalls. If its really cold the car starts fine and its fine once the engine has warmed up. Its like on an old manual choke car, if you don't have enough choke on when pulling away when cold. Once its stalled sometimes it can be a real pain to restart and theres a smell of unburned fuel. Once up to temperature its fine (except about once every 3 months it will stall at hte lights and I have to restart it).

Any ideas what to check. New plugs, diagnostic reads no faults. TBS adjusted (wasnst out). PVC checked and cleaned.

starting with easiest to expensive(st)
check vacuum leaks around intake tubing
check timing in DIAG mode, make sure it's advaned properly. Adjust timing and idle speed adjacent to each other.
Test the distributor

that should at least give you a start
