B6 1.6 4C DOHC - Whats the correct coolant draiing procedure

Post by kstarb123 »

Hi all,

I followed the procedure in the on-line manual to drain the coolant. The manual says 6.0L capacity vut I only got about 3.5L out. The manual just says drain at the radiator, but I'm wondering if theres a drain plug for the engine block that needs to be drained too.

Is there something that I'm missing fomr the procedure.

Thanks
Keith

i've always done it by the radiator and it seems fine, i just always take off the radiator cap as well to make sure there's no restriction when draining, and also squeeze the hoses to get whatever is in the hoses.
i don't think 6L is right because whenever i did it it only took about 3-4 bottles of my coke bottle to fill it (what i use to mix my coolant with water XD)

Only from radiator but make sure the coolant pass through all the circuit. You will need to bleed the air from in.Check the manual instructions for it.
Then you will need to fill in more.In the end fill the coolant reservoir too

Thanks everyone.

BTW you have to watch for how much air is still to be evacuated. After a run the expansion tank was down to the low level, even though I had had it running and followed the manual to bleed the system. Since topping up everythings been fine.
