On my way home last night I stopped at the store. They had a grounding strap with copper core bolt holes at either end and it looked juuuust long enough to span between the negative battery post and the contact point for the chassis ground. At home I installed and it started up fine, idled it for a ...

Thanks Pat, great info as always. You really are a valued resource. The cable that i have for negative battery has bolt on connections at each end, with the battery side bolted to post terminal connector things. I initially have bolted the other end to the engine block where the original cable ended...

Okay, so I took the conduit apart and traced the negative battery cable down to a ground point on the engine block. It also has a ground to chassis up near the engine mount which appears to just be a stripped area of the cable with a copper connector crimped on. When I was at the store, I didn't see...

How hard is it to change? I replaced the disty, assuming the CEL referred to the cam sensor, but I've still got the code. It's the same code for both, right? I think I got NE02 for the CPS? For a diagram, take a look at the Online Shop manual page F2-153. To get the proper perspective, imagine that...

[WTB] MX-3 GS Splash Guards

My 1994 MX-3 GS has lost most of it's splash guard plastic-y things that protect the engine bay from the spray of road salt so copiously spread on Ontario roads Prefer Toronto area just for ease of pickup/shipping although there may be lucky people who live in warmer climes who have no need of these...

The Mazda 3 Sport has become my spousal equivalent's wagon queen family truckster since we reproduced. I think it is a lot more car than the Protege 5 and an older one should not be much more than referenced above for the Protege. I have driven the Protege and it is a nice handling car but it doesn'...

Battery cables and windshield washer nozzle

Car is a 94 GS. Sorry for the dumb questions but many of the missing pages of the online shop manual concern these parts. With last week's horrible freezing weather in Toronto I had a couple of unfortunate casualties. Cleaning the 6 inches of ice off my car I apparently cleaned off the driver's side...

Steve If your engine is leaking oil, you are probably adding enough replacement oil within the change interval to keep the TBN up and avoid depleting the additives that neutralize the nasty acids. While I use synthetic oil in my Porsche, on a car that leaks oil you might actually leak less using con...

I swapped the bulbs out this afternoon. Installed these cheapo EIKO "Xenon" bulbs. They aren't some kind of fake HID or over wattage, just a stndard 9004 65/45 with a blue tint on part of the glass. Ostensibly the Xenon gas is brighter, not that I really buy that. I was careful to not touc...

I went and bought some replacement bulbs on the way to work yesterday. Have not had a chance to install yet.

On my way home from work the right side high beam died. So I became the ultimate "I hate that guy" driver: One high beam.

I hope it's just the bulbs.

Recommend a Drive Clean location in Toronto

I am due to have two cars emissions tested in the next couple of months. Can anyone recommend a place in Toronto, preferably downtown? I would like a place that will not make me wait while the car cools down. I don't think either is overly likely to fail but it would be better if i could get the cat...

Headlight low beams quit

When I got about a block from home tonight I noticed that my headlights had stopped working. I switched to high beams and they were fine. Tomorrow when it is less freezing and less pitch black i will check fuses and relays but could it just be water? The weirdest thing. It was -15 C (about 5 degrees...
