Want to get a Protege5

Post by Typhoonk »

Hey;

Just got the itching for another car. A protege 5 in white or black, 5 speed.

Know anyone wanting to unload one for cheap or a good forum that is easy to read?

Looking to buy one in the summer

how much do they go for.

Also I am not looking to unload the mx-3 right away - unless someone has the right price

but any info would be great

They are basically the same as a mx v6. 130 crank hp. Not fast, not slow. The handling on them is incredible tho. Just don't get the automatic.

check out http://www.toprotege.com

you can get some info there. Everyone is friendly...

If there isn't one currently for sale on the board, just ask, they usually can find one.

i drive a 2002 Mazda Protege5 (hatchback) on my job, and no, it is definitely not 130hp ... it's a quick little bugger. I checked edmunds.com and I'm sure the trim I drive is the 170hp one, so often when i'm driving it i'm like "if this is 170hp, then just imagine 200 with a klze ... mmmmm"

note: the protege5 has awesome suspension. It's firm and i bet is intended to be a sports suspension system ...
handling? ehhh ... it's a typical sedan steerer in the lines of Toyota Camries, etc ... the mx3 has more precise/solid handling than it, that's for sure

but
it
looks
uncool.

The P5 never came in a 170 hp version. Most of them run off the 2.0L I4, which is only 130hp. There are a lot of swap options and bolt on turbo kits so maybe it saw an upgrade, but they only come stock with 130. There is also a P3, which is 140hp. And what your thinking of is the MazdaSpeed version, which does have 170, but it isn't a hatchback.

The Mazda 3 Sport has become my spousal equivalent's wagon queen family truckster since we reproduced.

I think it is a lot more car than the Protege 5 and an older one should not be much more than referenced above for the Protege.

I have driven the Protege and it is a nice handling car but it doesn't have any more power than a V6 MX-3 but it is heavier.

The Mazda 3 in 2.3liter trim has more power and is a really nice package
My Summer car is a Porsche.
My Winter car is a 1994 Mazda MX-3 GS. 1.8L V6, K&N intake, Pacesetter Short Shift, Corksports SS Clutch line, Suspension Techniques lowered, Toyo Garit HTs for Winter Grip.
