Re: New BP starting to act like the B6 I just replaced.
funny you should mention that.......... I had a new CC installed last May, then in July it craps out, I hear this noise inside it, like something came loose and it just rattles inside the CC. Since I had the two year warranty on it, I returned it and got a replacement. So I have a newer cat that was...

New BP starting to act like the B6 I just replaced.
Well, I just did a BP swap because I was under the impression that my B6 had blown a head gasket. Although I didn't actually verify it with a mechanic, I had all the typical symptoms: rotten egg smell from the engine compartment, white/blueish exhaust smoke, bad timing, and the car wanted to stall w...

BP SWAP Just finished my BP swap.......what a journey!!!........I'm gonna throw in my two cents, and lots of thanks to Ryan and Dark_Rider2k3 for much needed info! I used a combination of Typhoonk's BP swap journal from the 4cyl FAQ, and the "let's band to make a real BP guide" from the 4...

Re: [FS] GS Gauge Cluster
I ended up crossing my fingers and taking the old 4-cyl tach and putting it into the GS cluster, works like a charm! I tried analyzing both tachs for differences, to see why there would be discrepancies in the readings. There are a set of potentiometers but they seem to be on the same settings on bo...

Re: Really bad exhaust problems
okay........pretty much confirmed, dead cylinder, bad headgasket :crying: ......brown coolant, black oil, just a matter of time before my engine dies..........but there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I managed to find a '94 BP engine with 79K miles for $300 at the local junk yard. If the insid...

[WTB] BP engine (it's that time!)
I live in the tri-state area (New Jersey), equidistant from the Holland and Lincoln tunnels, so I'll go in any direction to locate the engine. Been doing some research calling places in Essex county (Newark, Elizabeth, etc). Found a Protege engine for $400 and an Escort GT for $500. Willing to pay t...

Really bad exhaust problems
I recently replaced my broken catalytic converter (on 8/9) and also added a resonator and a new muffler and O2 sensor (because i had diagnosis code 17). I drove my car sparingly with the broken catalytic converter for about 3 weeks, but it wasn't too bad, just drove when I had to with the windows do...

[FS] GS Gauge Cluster
I recently bought a GS cluster off of eBay but I have 92 RS. My issue is that the tachometer isn't properly reading because I have a 6CYL tach trying to read a 4CYL engine. You can read more about it on this post. http://www.mx-3.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=77582 I'm gonna sell it in the hop...

Re: swapped from 1.6 cluster to 1.8 cluster, tach problems
well these gauges were pulled off a MTX which is fine because my car is also MTX. I also read in the Electronics FAQ that all gauges are swappable (save for the cable driven speedo). I was under the impression that a meter is a meter across all platforms, and the difference might not be with the gau...

swapped from 1.6 cluster to 1.8 cluster, tach problems
I swapped my 92 RS cluster for a GS cluster, since my fuel gauge needle was broken and temp gauge was non-op and am soon going to do a BP swap. So now I have both of these gauges working but the tachometer is not reading properly. It works though, when I rev, it runs up, when idle it stays where it ...

Solenoid Valve (Pressure Regulator) hack job
So I've pretty much been driving my car like this for 6 years. I really didn't notice anything until i found this part hiding in the tiny holding space on the drivers side door. http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f143/skrachvynl/MX-3/IMG_1637.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f143/skrachvynl/MX-3...
