If the HLAs are full of oil you'll have a hard time compressing them.
I'm not sure what is going on with the retainers. Maybe post up some pictures. The valve stems should stick out the top of the spring the same amount on all of them.

Re: Power Steering is awful, I just want it gone!
You can bypass the hard pipe section that is leaking up front. Just connect the 2 hoses that currently connect to the leaking pipe together with a barbed hose connector or get a single hose to connect from the reservoir to the hard line near the reservoir. Just bypass the cooler pipe don't bypass th...

Re: Oil leak from passenger's side... typical offenders?
Maybe it is just me, but the oil leaks that gave me the most problem were higher on the engine. The front camshaft seals leaked - but not from the camshaft, but rather from the cylinder head. You need a thin coat of sealant under the front camshaft caps. The front caps form the top half of where the...

Re: cold bloodied V6
Inodoro was referencing Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) not Engine Coolant Temperature. EGT is directly related to the air / fuel ratio. A rich air fuel ratio (more fuel then necessary like you have just after starting a cold engine) will show lower EGT. Eventually the EGT rises as ideal air fuel rati...

Re: Oil filter upgrade
The benefits from the cartridge system come from filter area and filter efficiency. I doubt I could, but want to state that I don't want to discourage your tinkering. But, an oversize and high filter efficiency spin on filter will provide the same benefit for our cars. The 90 - 95 Corvette ZR1 filte...

Re: lagging under power/ back fire?
Do you still have a catalytic converter on this car? The bogging down under acceleration and backfiring are symptoms of an exhaust restriction. There is a difference between backfiring and misfiring. If I understand this post there is backfire and loss of power under load and it is getting worse. My...

Re: Leaking Gas
I'm not sure what you might be talking about with reference to a metal bag. There are a couple of valves. You might be able to identify the parts using the service manual link . You can use this link and site to get the Mazda part #. I had a similar small leak (different car) when fuel tank was full...

Fuel pressure sounds ok. Seems like it is running rough under load. How old are spark plug wires and other ignition components?

Re: need exhaust system, low on money
Yes those headers should work. If you are installing in an MX3 you will probably need to do some customization of the Y-pipe or down pipe. On mine the Y-pipe needed to be shortened in 2 spots: 1. One leg of the Y had to be shortened so the flanges would mate to the exhaust manifold 2. The overall le...

Re: Intake manifold bolts
You probably got this done already, but yes 14 - 19 ft-lbs is the recommended torque for the intake manifold. I've never used a torque wrench for those, just made it tight with a 3/8" ratchet drive. As far as order you would start from the middle and work your way out in 2 steps. It should be p...

Re: crankcase tube to air intake
If you're talking about the tubes that come off the valve covers then yes you can send them to a catch can. Later versions of the K engine eliminated those vents. I'd still run the line off the PCV valve.

Re: Replacing camshaft seals
I think camshaft cap is leaking, is there seal that goes there or just RTV it real good? The 2 camshaft caps at the front of the engine and the one at the rear left (where the distributor is driven) need a thin coat of RTV between the cap and the cylinder head. The other camshaft caps are just torq...

Re: Replacing camshaft seals
I assume you're replacing camshaft seals because of oil leaks. While you're in there you might want to remove and seal the front camshaft cap to the engine head. The front camshaft caps are just behind the timing pulleys as seen in this link . It is nearly impossible to tell if the camshaft seals or...

Re: Help my car isn't starting!! :(
I assume the car was running (maybe poorly) prior to installing all these new, rebuilt or cleaned up parts. This really sounds like it could be something simple - a plug that is not connected (vaf?), wires that are connected wrong (spark plug wires?) or large air or vacuum leak (vacuum hoses or air ...

Re: ECT Code 69 Problem
Green and gray sensors are essentially interchangeable and provide input to the ECU for idle control. The green or gray sensors would have three ribs that mate with the connector and are the middle of the 3 temp sensors (just behind and to left of coolant filler pipe). The black sensor should have o...
