Re: 1992 mx3 valve stem seals
sooooo. ... tested for spark on the windsheild while cranking. though i did notice that unless the plug grounded to the wiper there was no spark, so im wondering if there is a ground issue? If you have a spark plug in the cable then the ground strap on the spark plug must be grounded (like it is wh...

Re: Sticky TB
All the above are true sources of hunting or high idle. The OP (this is a very old thread) and some others have perfect idle until their car warms up and especially when it is hot outside. The more recent comment about slop in the cable is almost certain to have a different source of bad idle. IF yo...

Re: Sticky TB
Bumping this thread, I'm having the same issue. Revs can get stuck at around 1500-2000 because there is too much slop in the cable. I've tried playing with the throttle brackets angle etc but the issue seems to be simply the cable is too long. Looking under my gas pedal I can see at least a half in...

Re: Sticky TB
Sticky throttle when hot - solution: You do not need a new cable you need new cable routing. The solution is so simple I could not figure it out for nearly 2 years. You can't have any sharp turns in the throttle cable. If you route the cable so that all the turns are smooth large radius circle turns...

Re: Early K Series Heat Exchanger to Oil Cooler Modification
The reason these water / oil heat exchangers were eliminated was for cost not performance. The faster oil warm up and cooler oil at operating temperature were not great enough benefits (and most buyers wouldn't know) so Mazda was able to save a few $ per engine. The oil heat exchanger is a cooler wh...

Re: 92 mx3 1.6 torque specs
Ancient thread, but maybe someone needs a quick intro to the service manuals. Find the torque specs in the service manual for the Clutch at this link Pressure plate to flywheel torque is lower than you might expect: 13-20 ft lbs It seems many are able to find the forum, but not the service manuals. ...

Re: more kl swap questions...
Yeah... I was just looking at the oil light on the dash  assumimg that whilst it was on there was no pressure. That is exactly what the oil pressure light means - low oil pressure. Be worried if the light comes on. As SuperK points out the stock oil pressure sensor is an oil pressure switch. ...

Appears dan forgot to add the links. If you have not found what you needed in the service manuals then the links below should help. Diagram of transmission showing location of the neutral switch and back up light switch: link to transmission diagram Neutral switch trouble shooting and possibly a bet...

Re: [WTB] - Overdrive 5th Gear
I did the Mazda MX6 or 626 Sourced 5th gear Swap It will reduce your RPMs at 120 km/h (75 mph) from about 3700 to 3300 – a drop of about 400 rpm. Combined city and highway driving I get 27 – 29 mpg or you guys might say 8.7 – 8.1 liters / 100km Which Final Drive? 4.338 or 4.105? The above is for a ...

Re: KL-ZE Swap Randomly Dying
Good to see you did some further testing. I've replaced head gaskets with the engine in the car and it is a lot of work. I would have simply done a coolant pressure test to see if the coolant system held pressure over time. You can rent / borrow a coolant pressure tester from some parts stores. An i...

Re: [WTB] Idle Set Screw and Spring
That's a little mess there. Why all the washers? I think you're talking about the idle stop screw. OEM does not involve any springs - or if it did you don't need them. It is just a screw or a bolt (M5 or M6) and a matching nut to lock it down. The screw threads into the throttle body arm with the nu...

Re: 1992 mx3 valve stem seals
also, what would allow so much oil to build up on the alternator ect? would it be just as simple as dropping the pan and putting in a new seal? the inside of the timing cover was pretty dirty as well. so maybe a front seal went bad. bleh.. so much work.. I think i had the timing belt and waterpump ...

Re: 1992 mx3 valve stem seals
Progress looks good. Spray the head gaskets with Hylomar Universal Blue Racing formula before install as insurance against coolant leaks. Buy the Hylomar gasket sealing compound in an aerosol can. I was given this tip from a machine shop when I replaced head gaskets due to an external coolant leak. ...

Re: filling motor mounts
Silicone would be a waste of time - way too soft. I've never used 3M window weld, but it is polyurethane and should work ok. The problem is that you must let it cure. Window weld is air cured and cure time is temp dependent. Window weld is not usually applied so thick as when you fill a mount. It wi...
