Two variations in USDM Full Length Side Skirts

Post by Jovian2k »

I have noticed on a few occasions that there are two variations of the USDM Full Length Side Skirt... one that ends in a slight scoop in it and one which is solid.

Anyone else ever notice this? I wonder why these two slight differences exist...

One is a aftermarket or custom (top) and the bottom is the true blue OEM side skirt....

Well IDK because why doesn't anyone know the manufacturer of the "aftermarket" one with scoop... people are dying to get their hands on full length side skirts so why doesn't anyone know the brand or model of this "aftermarket" variety? Also they are nearly identical except this scoop... I find it hard to believe its aftermarket. I have seen them on stock MX-3s on craigslist. Anyone have the one with scoop can see what is stamped on it? I have EUNOS full length sides and they are smooth no scoop.

Thats 'cause I believe it's just an ebay brand, I've heard it called some stupid name before but they're long discontinued, probably fewer made then the OEm variant.

I like them, because they seem to sit a little higher than the OEM sides.

If I got my hands on one, I would fill the "scoop" portion, and make my own OEM style sides.

Front splash guards are installed maybe making them seem higher... IDK

I like the oem w/out the "scoop" myself too.

I was also under the impression that the non-OEM scoop versions were fiberglass instead of polyurethane which makes them more prone to being damaged while driving...

YES the ones with the scoop are aftermarket and were sold widely on ebay with a couple of different body kits. They are fiberglass. That white car is for sale on CL right now in Bellevue Wa... weird.

Fiberglass indeed, but better on the sides than in front, at least for me...

I do back into parking spaces 99% of the time, though.

Nope, the OE ones have subtle lines through there and in certain lighting and colors looks like that. Those I guarantee you thoes are OE skirts. You can tell by looking at the rest of the skirts and comparing them to mine have the exact same characteristics.

Edit:

This car is worth it to buy sell the sides, throw a new engine in and sell the car... hmm had I not bought that 540...
