[GI] Lexan hatch windows for real.
We found a manufacturer!
We would now like to see how many people want these.
Of course, the more people who get in on this, the cheaper it is for everyone!
We don't have a price, yet, but I'm going to guess they'll be around $268.49 if we can get 10 or more poeple on board.
So far, the interested are;
1 - ME
2 - Cjthor
3 - Moooneggs
4 - Stereoking15
5 - hgallegos915
6 - Evo_spec (later)
7 - hotsiit
8 - Towona
9 - Jovian2k
10 - Josh
11 - Kast2L
If everyone could pay in advance, we can do this. We'll talk to the company, and get some quotes. Most of the cost is in making the mold.
My estimate is a guess based on the cost of the Markolon ($100), and an estimate we got from a guy who decided not to do it. He sounded like it was a low estimate, and possibly bailed out, instead of telling us it would cost more These are available for about $600 from MazdaSpeed.
If you have a metal hatch, and want to drill or rivet it in, we can make you a flat sheet in the right shape for less than the final cost of the bent ones.
I'm open to any questions.

Would you offer them in gradients of tint? How is the scratch resistance? You can take a razor blade to glass without fear (obviously if you're not using it as a dagger, but a scraper)

We're using Markalon, which has the highest abrasion resistance. It will not come close to glass in sctratch resistance. Ice Racing has been racing with it for 2 seasons, and said he hasn't had any abrasion issues.

Re: [GI] Lexan hatch windows for real.
Cool. I'll run a list in the first post.
I can actually offer tint, but it doesn't have any scale. I can get samples, and take pictures of them.
For a few extra $$ I can go to a tint place, get samples, and compare them to the tint levels I can get, and get pictures of them side by side.
I plan to tint mine very lightly on the inside, and outside, to help protect it, and tint at the same time.

Re: [GI] Lexan hatch windows for real.
Definitely interested I am assuming these would have to be riveted to a CF hatch in some fashion?

PLease fill us in on some details regarding how it would be attached to the hatch... glue, rivets, either?

Re: [GI] Lexan hatch windows for real.
it will basically bring your hatch weight down so I'm not sure how much the lexan sheet actually weighs... once we get one we should weigh it to see exactly. Right now the hatch glass alone weighs 49 pounds...
Technical specs:
-OEM Hatch w/ glass: 77 lbs.
-OEM Hatch w/o glass: 28 lbs.

Re: [GI] Lexan hatch windows for real.
Few questions:
How hard is it to install?
How is its resistance to high vibration (think three 12" subs)?
Does it shatter easier or is it more durable than the OEM hatch glass (against hits, hail, etc.)?
