94 GS CEL

Post by Mr_Shorty »

Kinda of a stupid question. Do you need a ODB2 code reader for a 94?? I tried the paperclip and it didn't work. CEL comes on a few seconds after the car starts and doesn't shut off. Thanks

94's are all OBDI so you use the paperclip trick. And you don't need to start it when you're checking codes.

TEN and GND yeh?

It shouldn't be on, if you don't start the car. Just turn the key to ON, it should click, and CEL should blink.

I'm not actually starting the car when I'm checking for the codes. I only was telling ppl that so they'd know what was happening when the car runs. I did find out that the wire I used didn't make enough continuity to actually do the check. After using the proper wire (an actual paperclip) I got 4 blinks...'NE1' camshaft/crankshaft position sensor. Now to change it out.

Not all 94's are OBDI, but pretty much the large majority are.

For the 94's you'll could actually come across it on a few Mx-3's, 95 they were pretty mainstream and 96's are 100% because it was mandated for that year.
