Bpt vs klde turbo

Post by Hood-R Oliver »

So i'm planing to finally get an mx-3 in the next three years. I've also planed to get some power, so should i buy a rs and get a bpt swap done for it or a klde an get that turboed? i'm looking for the easier one. I gues u might get more power out of a klde turbo but is a bpt-swap easier? I'm sure i'll get enough power out of that one too, just wanna now wich is easier.

And r there any differenses between the rs ang gs? I know the engine and gear box r different, and the gs has some spoilers and things like that but r they basicly the same car? Is the rs as good as the gs if u forget the performance and the brakes? Kind of hard to explain... I just wanna know the differenses, for exlample a normal golf and a gti golf r guite different, so are the differenses as big with a rs and a gs?

Sory if my english is a bit bad. :)

If you want to save some money you would probably want to go with a RS and get a BPT. the V6 may be hard to track down where you are, they may not be as reliable and parts are pricey. Getting a turbo kit is not cheap either.

As for the differences, there are a few. The GS has rear disk breaks as well and better suspension components, there are a few other subtle differences but nothing you cannot change if needed. I would go with a BPT if you wanna make some power.

BPT weighs less than the ZE but produces the same power and can handle up to 400+ hp if built right.

Physical differences:
GS - lip and wrap around spoiler, rear disc brakes
RS - no lip, usually no spoiler but sometimes came with a nice slightly raised spoiler (pics can be seen on the main mx-3.com page), drum rear brakes

the rest of the interior and exterior are all options that came on both cars

Thanks. 8)
they may not be as reliable

that doesn't really sound good... :( . A few days ago a was reading about the bpt swap some where and there were listed an awfully lot of parts. The less u have to swap and modify parts the better cause finnsh laws r really f*cked up... :( . U can only swap/modify/change up to 49.9%. For example changing both front seat will bring 2,4%. I think i won't even get the car to b legal with a kl, specially a kl-turbo, because of the engine swap laws, but i'm sure u r really not interested in hearing them:D. But i gotta try to get a kl-turbo street legal.

Cause it's not only the engine and transmissoin that's gonna b modified. So i have to know wich swap has less modifies etc. But am i right that u have to change/swap or modify less parts for a kl-de turbo than a bpt? I'm sure they both r able to give enough power. :D (i'm lookeing for some 200-350 horses)

And i knew those differences, i just wanted to know r they any big differences in the suspension or things like that, but i gues i'l go with the gs like i had originally pland. I just love the sound of a V6...

but thaks a lot for those good replys! Just hope that i haven't chosen the wrong path.

if you buy a 92-93 mx-3 RS and do a bp or bpt swap you only have to chance the engine and ecu and it will run perfect if you change the transmission and axles it will run perfect and you won't break your trans...

if you buy a 92-93 GS and do a klze swap you should be able to only change the engine and maybe the ecu and it will run great i don't think you need to change anything else

if you need 200ish hp, get a ze, and add little bits here and there and you'll get the power you need without having to add a turbo. now if you're shooting for 350, you could get a bpt but still, that's gonna be an RS, with your strict laws to get your suspension and breaks fixed that's gonna cost some money and will be counted as modification on your car I suppose, then adding the lip and other stuff might further complicate things, if i were you i'd just get me a nice GS and drop a ZE in it.

Thanks again, good replys. 8)

I'm thinking of getting a 94- cause i just love the new dash, and swaping the old one to a 94 will bring some xtra% again. But yeah i've thought about a ze, actually it was only last week that i changed my mind to go with a de. Why? Cause with a turbo u can adjust the power by changing the boost-levels. So on the street i could use low boost= low power, easier to get the car street legal, and then on the track and events like those i could use the higher boost. Well either de or ze means i'll b getting a gs.

I'll probebly go with the gs, cause i'm sure the k8 is ok for some time and then in the future i'll see if i should get a de-turbo or a ze.

I just don't know why but i think i have some serious assumptions (<- is that the right word?) about the rs, i guess it's cause i've been dreaming about getting a gs since i was 12. :?

I still think a BPT swap is your best bang for your buck. Turboing a GS Means a pricey standalone for like 1000 dollars (or megasquirt for like 400). Plus piping a GS would be a PITA. 2000 dollars tops for the BPT plus the ECU is programmed for boost( meaning no standalone).

GS with ZE swap about 165hp

RS with BPT swap close to 200hp with boost controller.

Putting a ZE engine will give you 200-210 hp just for swapping the motor and ECU. Then upgrade your CAI, better plugs and wires.

Putting a DE engine in will give 165 hp. Because this engine is exactly the same as the 1.8 V6 in the GS, it is basically drop in and go. Plus with it having lower compression it will work better with a turbo. Although it can be done with the ZE.

165 on a ZE? that would be one shitty ZE lol, ZEs should do at least 190hp and then with a few upgrades you could easily hit 210, no turbo, no standalone, nothing expensive just the engine and a little bit of tweaking here and there.

Maybe 200 crank horse power. I have seen what a ZE with ECU does and it isnt no 200 wheel horse power. More like 165-185 with CAI and plugs and what not and more what not.

bpt isn't 200 at the wheels either it's 180 at the crank
