Blew Tranny tonight have question about others

Post by Mnemonic »

It's probably toast i dunno i'm gonna check it out tomarrow. But since my syncros were starting to aggravate me anyway i just decided to get another one in better condition. I'm curious which tranny i should replace with:

626, mx3, mx6, probe

now i know everyone says that the mx3, mx6 and probe trannies all share the same gears. but i herd that there was a certain year 626 that had taller gears in 3rd and 4th. anyone know anything about that (what years).

Anyway what would be the optimum choice i have all of them available to me

You got 2 choices

1) MX-3, Probe GT Tranny, both geared the same and have a final drive of 4.38

2) MX-6 LS, 626, geared the same as the other trannies but come with a 4.11 Final drive

Seconded, the MX-3 and PGT have the exact same tranny.

The mx-6 is the one with the longer gear. And you do NOT have to change axles.

Yea I have the mx6 tranny in and it fits just fine, no modding needed. I am enjoying the longer gears, going up to 35 or so in first is kind of nice. I think the car is more daily driver friendly with the 4.11 final drive ratio.

Not sure about the 626 though.

By the way thanks slammed 6 for the trans. It feels pretty nice. Too bad it wasnt my problem and I didn't really need it. O well. It was a good time to upgrade.

And since my other trans was fine, I have one just sitting around if you interested mnemonic. Im not sure I want to get rid of it, but I could use some cash. PM me if ur interested. Its a probe tranny with 66k on it. Synchros felt great when I pulled it.

Personally i would go with the mx-3 or pgt tranny. They are more geared for acceleration while the 626 and mx-6 tranny and geared more for cruising.
