93 GS 1.8 turbo at the track

Post by andy »

Friday night at Moroso, south Florida location. Here is my best run.

60' 2.433
330' 6.725
1/8m 10.111
mph 73.61
1000' 12.945
1/4m 15.349
mph 94.54

I got 3 runs in. temp was 70 deg. that run was on 7 psi. Vris were not tied open. wastegate was leaking. I have not mastered driving with this setup yet. Oh well enough excuses I have since fixed the leaky wastegate and tied the vris open. the car feels much better today than friday night, but it is also running 9 psi now.

That race was against a 2005 mustang GT, He won but only by a car length. he was much slower getting off the line.

Beat a modified and lightened 240 sx by a couple car lengths

lost to a turboed 350Z by a couple of buss lengths.

I was always interested in what a 1.8 turbo can do. Nice man...get those 60ft times down...some nice drag radials.

Thats defantly sweet. Do you know on average how much hp/torque you got goin right now? Probably about 170 i'm THINkin? Thats sweet man. What kinda turbo you running? Boost controller? FMU?

Another thing to look at to get your 60ft times lower is suspension.

The car suspension is stock, tires and rims are stock. The car looks factory stock. If it weren't for the wastegate dumping you wouldn't
know something was up under the hood.
I don't have any imediate plans to dyno the 1.8 until I get a megasquirt and intercooler installed. I know for sure that right now as it runs that it is quite capable of better than a crappy 15.3. Lets just say I was staying even with a mid 90's camaro ss thru 3rd and 4th and had no problems pulling away from my wifes RX-8 in 2nd and 3rd.

The turbo is a T3/T4 T04E 57 trim. I have an MBC but I'm not using it. The spring in the Wastegate is giving me 8-9psi. I have a vortech 8:1 FMU. 220cc injectors.

Once you sort out the suspension and get a decent intercooler, I can definitely see you running some good times with that setup.

Nice to see a turbo 1.8 V6 since most of the turbo V6 guys have the 2.0 or 2.5 engine.

The injectors came the Millenia intake I bought at the local u-pullit.
As far as I know all 2.5 L mazda motors came with the 220cc injectors.
for me this is an upgrade since the 1.8 L motor only came with 180cc injectors. I'm considering looking for the 2.3 L injectors from the Millenia supercharged version. those are 280cc and would be an upgrade for the 2.5L motors as well.
I"m intercooled now and trying to find time to get back to the track and wring this thing out. I'm running 10psi and feel that I'm at the limits of my fuel and tuning, But very fun to drive.
