Flywheel Machining

Post by SimonPK »

My local Mazda dealer is saying when I change the clutch I need to have the flywheel machined for about C$100. Because it will have heat spots after being used for 175,000kms. Is this true?
If I do the clutch myself to save $600 in labour do I have to get the flywheel done?
Thanks

You should be able to take the flywheel to any machine shop that can turn brake rotors to be turned. Should cost about 20USD.

Or you could always order one at Autozone for $50.

I still can't figure out why though? Does it distort or get high spots or does it case harden or something?!

you want the surface to be nice and smooth to break in your new cluch. and hey, look at it this way, if you get it machined it will be lighter
