KL-03 swap

Post by larz13 »

Is the KL-03 any bigger than the 1.8L and how hard would it be to swap. How much would it cost for a Kl-03? It's rated at 170hp right.
Thanks
Larz

I haven't done the swap myself yet, but i've heard its relativly easy, its a stright bolt up, I beleive. Im not totally sure about the price, but im sure you could pick one up for less then $600USD or so. The KL-03 engine is rated at 160, i beleive.
Way to much work to go from a 4-cylinder to the v6 KL-03 look for a turbo if you want more power or look into the 4banger swap.

No such thing as a KL-03, proper term is KL-DE.

Turbos are nuts , You run out of things to do and costs much more money for a normally aspirated engine. Turbos are exspensive but the upgrades are much cheaper to upgrade , and you can make massive power with a turbo .

I agree with mazdamaniac - except that a NA engine is more dependable than a non-stock turbo engine - which is only if the engine did not come with a turbo in the first place.

Yes because engines with turbos stock are tested for 2 years before they can even be released onto the market so the maufacturer works out all the bugs for us . :D

what do you mean double the work and money? It should be the same work at turbo-ing a K8? They're basicly the same engine in the way of layout, the only thig thats different is the internals...right?

quote:
Originally posted by jonnybpimpin:

KLDE and the KLZE are basicly the same, except for different heads, pistons, cams, no egr, all the internal stuff, if you look at each engine, unless you look at the internal or the stamping of the codes on the parts, they would/should identical, its just that the ZE engine itself costs more becuase of its demand
FYI, its not called a KL03, there's no such thing, its called KLDE, i believe that KLO3 referes to the stamping on the cams on KLDE engines, but for some odd reason, people call them KL03's instead of KLDE's
[ September 05, 2003: Message edited by: Nd4SpdSe ]
