We had tossed around the idea a while back of making an exhaust system for the Mx3 but we could not get enough interest. A guesstimate if we were to build a system would be the $399-$439 range.

I agree 8)

Any specs on the exhaust if you were to make it? I'd actually be interested pending a sound clip. Mine sounds terrible.

I would be very interested in a cat back exhaust, especially from CS. maybe include a high-flow cat, for us that still want to pass emissions.

Only problem is the OP claimed that the system could be universal. Pretty sure V6 and 4 cylinder guys would not want to run the same diameter exhaust.

either that, or just have the piping..

but yeah I know I'm getting a high-flow cat. Magnaflow makes one for our car that I might get.

I know of at least 1 1st gen protege, and an escort gt running one of these piping kits. Cant see the MX-3 being so much different that one of these pipe kits couldnt be used. Just go buy a nice high flow cat, long resonator, and a chambered muffler, youll be all set.

I mean, the 3" stainless steel set is only $270 + $20 shipping.

Took the bp+t out of the mx and swapped it into a 95 escort wagon. ;)

No no no, wat I meant was the fact that the bends would be similar, but the diameter could be different. I don't see much need for a 3" exhaust on a car. Unless you've got a turbo, and in that case, you probably already have an exhaust.
Now, v6 sounds pretty decent with 2.5", and they can offer a silencer for the i4 (like they do on their drift exhaust kit) if needed.

So, I swapped in the BPT, but this still might apply to some extent. I have the PowerSeries catback exhaust for the 90-94 Protege from Corksport. It had to be cut at the end and custom fitted to the downpipe/cat, but from there back, it follows the same route.

In all honesty most here don't have the money to spend on a custom made exhaust and that's just the reality. $400 doesn't include shipping so now we're up to $600, not installed. I can buy the cat, resonator and muffler and have them installed for a total out lay of about $450. You still might need a cross over pipe or headers if yours are old so add from $180 to $300. Oh and we might as well do new O2 sensors as well. Bottom line is, most people will piece meal an exhaust together. I can understand Corksport bailing on this.

You seem to have issues find old topics today. CS will no longer be supporting the MX3. They will be phasing us out very soon. So.... moot.... That's kinda what you get when you bring up old topics.
