BP 1.8L DOHC Swap Info

The Car’s you can get a bp from are 1991-1995 Escort GT, 1990-94 Protégé LX(us) GT(Canada) and 1990-1994 Mercury Tracer LTS

92-93 with stock tranny
Parts needed: BP engine and ecu (*harness optional*)
you will have to use your stock clutch and flywheel

92-93 with bp tranny
Parts needed: BP engine, ecu, tranny, clutch, flywheel, 3 axels and mounting bracket for the tranny under battery tray (*harness optional*)

*If you do not get the bp harness u will have to run 2 wires from the ecu to the vics, or get a window switch to open the vics *

94+ with stock tranny
Parts needed: BP engine, harness and ecu

94+ with bp tranny
Parts needed: BP engine, ecu, harness, tranny, clutch, flywheel, 3 axels and mounting bracket for the tranny under battery tray

i think with the 94+ swap u need the bp(from cars with a bp) coil but not sure

if anyone has info to add to this so we can put it in the faq to help out people looking to do the swap :D

for 94+, you will need the coil/ignitor. whether it be from the bp car or an msd setup.

the "3rd" axle is also called a jack-shaft, half-shaft, etc. it's the axle that bolts to the back of the block and goes into the passenger side of the tranny and the passenger side cv axle connects to this.

And, 94+ MX-3's have electronic speedometers.

The BP did not.

now, if only we could get the exact same way of info for the BPT and B6T and the KLZE and everything else....the BPT should be exactly the same info right? or will you need a stronger tranny and clutch on all years?

Hey this is what i was looking for earlier, haha thanks. One more question, does the BP use the same alternator as a b6? I would like to get a stronger one and was wondering if i should take this out of a parts car when i get the chance?

question about the 92-93 info.
do you know if the b6 tranny bolts directly up? will there be a few bolt holes left unfilled? are you sure that the sotck mx-3 clutch will work with the engine? i thought there was a differnet amount of teeth...
Then again i think alot and all i end up with is a headache, any help info would be great.

so basicly all yu do is unplug everything from your sohc and just put in the dohc with tranny and flywheel and cluch then just plug every thing back on.Like a\c piping and eveything else.
and
then unplug the ecu and plug in the dohc ecu.

also one more question if the engine is a 94 does the ecu have to be from the 94. or can the ecu interchange from year and model(like protege to ford )

Good info... I'm doing research before I do this swap.

I've got a 96 RS and I want to throw in a BPT.

I have a few questions tho if anyone can answer this:
94+ with stock tranny
Parts needed: BP engine, harness and ecu

94+ with bp tranny
Parts needed: BP engine, ecu, harness, tranny, clutch, flywheel, 3 axels and mounting bracket for the tranny under battery tray
What would be the advantage of throwing in the BP tranny over using stock?

Also there is talk about the "GTX" and "GTR" engines... what is the difference between the two?

Would there be an advantage to getting J-SPEC engine over a North American one?

Thanks. :D

you're confusing two different motors. the bpt was never released in n. america. if you're wanting the american engine, you're talking about the b6t. if in fact you do want the bpt, the 1.8 turbo engine, there are two versions. both are very good motors, but unless you get a very good deal, i wouldn't waste my money on the gt-r.

as for the tranny, you want to use the bp tranny because it was built to handle more power.
