Ground wire kit
Ground wire kit
I read in Import Tuner about a ground wire kit that added 5 hp to a suzuki aerio, the kits are universal and I was just wondering if anyone had tried one of these on their mx-3, seems like a pretty cool mod.

Re: Ground wire kit
what exactly is a ground wire kit? if it's just a beefed up negative wire that goes from the batt to the chassis, i don't see how that adds power
Re: Ground wire kit
supposedly it reduces electrical resistance on the engine, I beleive it is actually a set of various wires that attach to different points on the engine and chassis. I was skeptical about it before reading the article but they threw the car on a dyno and it gained a solid 5 hp and about the same amount of torque.

Re: Ground wire kit
yea ive seen that too. i think it'd vary on cars and the only way to see a true increase is if someone can test this on the mx3 with a dyno.

Re: Ground wire kit
You'll get a bit more power, not 5 though. Any time electrical loads are heavy, bigger wires are recomended. It's pretty much a must for big audio.

Re: Ground wire kit
Its also a popular mod with the Subaru guys. They have issues with misfires because the stock grounding straps are crappy. It'll never hurt if nothing else.

Re: Ground wire kit
I don't know that I would want to get the e-bay brand, this XS Engineering kit seems like it is much higher quality and better designed than anything else. It has ultra pure copper wire and uses a daisy-chain design instead of all the wires stemming out from one central grounding block. You guys should check out the Dec. 2002 issue of Import Tuner because this seems like a great mod for our MX-3s. They dyno tested the wire on 4 cars and here is how the gains break down:
2002 Suzuki Aerio sx:
max gain: 3.9 hp(sorry my original number of 5hp was a little off)
avg. gain over entire power band: 1.5
2002 Honda S2000:
max gain: 2.1
avg. gain: 1.03
1995 RX-7 TT:
max gain: 15.3
avg gain: 7.09
1997 Nissan Maxima:
max gain: 11.6
avg gain: 6.23
Of course we arn't going to see gains like the RX-7 did, but considering that the wires are $100 and saying that we may gain an avg. of 2 hp its not a bad deal.
I don't think that the XS wires are available yet but I will probably buy a set when they are and let you guys know if they make a difference.

Re: Ground wire kit
the wires are available. they are actually from a company in japan called sun auto. when i went to L.A. for hot import nights we stopped a this japanese guys shop. he had them in stock and also had them on his 500hp silvia. he said he dynoed it and gained 17.hp at the wheels. it seemed to good to be true but after reading the import tuner i beleive it now.heres a link to his site. http://www.enonvativforce.com/
good luck

Re: Ground wire kit
maybe the kit might also help with the alternator/stalling problem that a lot of mx3s have.
