i'm 99.9% sure that the hold button WILL tear up your tranny if you use it as an overdrive button. in the manul it states that you should only use the hodl button when in low gears. it's purpose it to keep the transaxle? in place in bad conditions i.e. snow, ice, heavy rain. that way you don't lose control of your car(its a safety thing!)
i was going about 60mph on the highway and noticed that my car was accelerating extremely SLOW! then i saw that i had the hold button on, i turned hold off and i jumped up about 10 mph instantly.
i don't think that using hold will speed ya up! but maybe i'm just dumb...
------------------
93 MX-3

where does everyone get that the 1.6L has 88hp?Maybe that spec refers to the 8valve 1.6L.Why would Mazda create a 88hp 4cyl with 16 valves,if its true?
Road and track did a test on the 4 cilinder mx3 in a article called little squirts in 93. They said it was 88 hp and any other reputable source says 88hp. That is all it is. That is all it is ever going to be.
Jim
93 RS

Theres no point to discuss the specs on the SOHC engines, the SOHC its only capable of 88hps stock, its pretty frustrating, but with some mods you can easily increase its performance and make it a fun to drive car, not a 13 sec car, but its okey, the car rocks!
------------------
Alberto
1993 Mx-3 1.6l Se
Brilliant Black!

I'm gonna look into it cuz that just to low for a 16 valve engine when hondas with the same almost same engine produce at least over a 100 hp.

I just thought I would add my 2 cents...I have a 94 manual 4 cyl. I can get to 80 in 3rd if I red line it, I can get to 100 in 4th but it is not at red line. The fastest I have ever had my car is 110. I havent gotten it up to red line in 5th yet....but very tempted to do so when I find a road long enough.
------------------
Megen Murphy
Dont hate me because Im beautiful, hate me because my car looks better than your boyfriends!

As far as I know, the SOHC 1.6L engine is not 16 valve but 8 valve.
[This message has been edited by mendel00985 (edited August 08, 2001).]

Nope my Sohc is a 93 and on the valve cover it says 16 valve. They were used in the 92-93 RS. The 8 valves were in 323's.
Jim
93 RS

Thanks, I stand corrected. I've always thought that the SOHC used in the MX-3 was the same engine used in the 323... which is a pretty good engine. It shows to go you, and there's no boudt adout it, you learn something new every day...Thanks again...Manny

I have an SOHC 1.6L with the auto.
I've used the HOLD button on the highway to kick the tranny down into 3rd when climing and passing.... sometimes getting to speeds as high as 140km/h (85 mph). I didn't know that it could screw up the transmission but my tranny seems fine after 3 years of doing this. On freeways and other major autoroutes (Interstate, TransCanada, etc...), I don't know how you'd do without this.
Why does it damage the transmission and, if this does damage the transmission, would shifting down to "S" (which would also kick it into 3rd gear) do the same damage?
By the way, my MX-3 has reached slightly over 170km/h (106 mph) on level pavement (ie: not going downhill).
------------------
¡¡LISTEN TO MY MUSIC!!
[This message has been edited by GoA-BoY (edited August 29, 2001).]
