Which clutch to go with?
I'll probably have to replace clutch in future so I'm shopping for one right now.
Came across these
Stage 1
http://www.ebay.com/itm/PROBE-MX-6-626- ... 08&vxp=mtr
stage 2
http://www.ebay.com/itm/PROBE-MX-6-626- ... bc&vxp=mtr
stock one?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mazda-MX6-MX3-P ... 5d&vxp=mtr
Any other one that I should look into and why?

Stock PP and act 6 puck served me well to 291bhp. Much more streetable than my spec 6puck was.

Re: Which clutch to go with?
I think for the money those clutches may be a little weak. Are you running a ZE or 1.8? If your running a ZE there's no way IMO that those clutches will come even closle to doiing the job. I had a MX-6 clutch on my ZE and it would always slip when shifted under load. Honestly $300+ for a clutch if your running a ZE.

Stage 2 is advertised at 340HP/325lb-ft of torque, how is that weak for even klze?Daninski wrote:I think for the money those clutches may be a little weak. Are you running a ZE or 1.8? Re: Which clutch to go with?
Ok I don't live in the States and parts do tend to be about half the cost of buying them in Canada but still, $128 for a stage 2 clutch. Isn't that a little cheap. Rockauto has OEM's for that price so how can someone sell a quality stage 2 that cheap? Anyway, just sayin.mitmaks wrote: Stage 2 is advertised at 340HP/325lb-ft of torque, how is that weak for even klze?

Re: Which clutch to go with?
That's the beauty of ebay. I know I get good deals on ebay and that's what it's for. Kind of tells you what kind of profit margins auto parts stores are making huh?Daninski wrote:Ok I don't live in the States and parts do tend to be about half the cost of buying them in Canada but still, $128 for a stage 2 clutch. I'm thinking just stock one but later on I might swap to ZE so I'd like an upgraded one while I'm in there.
For example this Exedy on ebay is $117 shipped. On Rockauto it's $144 plus shipping, same exact part.

Re: Which clutch to go with?
yeah i was thinking just an oem 2.5 liter exedy clutch for my ZE. I have some generic stuff from autozone now because i needed a clutch fast and this thing is TERRIBLE. The engine was out the car again and the wife HATED the 6 puck ACT clutch i had in there. It grabbed really great it was just it jerked real violently and hard if you didnt shift like you were on the track 24/7. I want something that will handle the ZE power and still be tolerable from day to day.

Re: Which clutch to go with?
I ran a F1 clutch from ebay (stage1) and its been great! just doesn't hold a modded milly 2.5's power up top i should have went and got a stage 2.. I wouldn't be to afraid of buying an ebay clutch, but if you do go the next stage up and you shouldn't have any issuses at all.

Says right on the ad it should fit so I think you'd get a refund if it didn't. Lot of work for an annoying a-- bust though.mitmaks wrote:Found this clutch set, can someone confirm that it will work with mx-3 k8?

I'm incredibly wary by how cheap it is. Makes me paranoid.

Re: Which clutch to go with?
I used Exedy clutches. They have good longevity and enough grab for a stock KLZE. K8 shouldn't be an issue.
Of course, remember to resurface your flywheel and replace the pilot bearing. some people miss this step and it's a no-no.
I have heard of a lot of people recommending a SACHS brand as well... apparently they're both OE suppliers and should be top-notch quality.
Rock auto has the sachs for 96 dollars, and the exedy for 143. Use coupon code 1875877616289623 for 5% off.

Re: Which clutch to go with?
The KL and K8 clutch are the same dimensions. While they do show different part numbers, I am not aware of the actual differences between the two kits. I use a KL clutch on a K8 flywheel just fine.
You would want to reach out to the actual manufacturer to inquire about the differences in the kits.
