Upstream rear O2 sensor

Post by ZeroLux »

Anyone have any good suggestions for trying to replace the rear upstream o2? Just put the MX up on jack stands as high as I could and crawled under. Got a good look at where it's located, cant seem to get any tools to reach it well, lots of exhaust piping in the way.

You'll need one of these... special socket for unbolting o2 sensors

Yeah, I have one of those. It's not a question of the tool, it's a question of placement/lack of elbow room to work with it. I'll probably just take it to a shop tomorrow instead of fighting with it in my garage. Also think I noticed one of the downpipes being loose under there (on the back side), is there a metal covering over that part of the exhaust or have my welds broken just below the joint after the manifold? Seemed to have too much play in it.

You should be able to get it off with wrench/socket. I just did mine last year

Don't take it to a shop unless you've exhausted all other avenues man... It's so costly, for such a simple thing. :( It sucks, but you'll manage it... Try a crow-foot or adjustable wrench?

If you can do it without melting the wires, try a torch too...

Ha, mine was so tight torches, wrenches, cussing, big hammer, nothing nope, nothing would budge it. I said screw this and installed headers. I'm sure yours won't be that difficult  Good luck.

I know you believe that you understand what you think I said but I'm sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

Take about rust belts, being Canadian in Ontario means back bacon, toques, donuts and oxidation. Every year I bring my Dad's scooter to be 'Rust Checked'. My brothers prosthetic leg seized up over night after the first snow last year and I had to use an acetylene torch and penetrate to loosen it up so he could walk to the crapper. Sucks for rust here that's for sure.
