Smog fail - High HC

Post by dmac »

What do you guys think about this? The car has not been run for more than a year and I did the first test just to see where i am at and this is the result:

Used up the gas and put in new one and also used seafoam and now here is the result:

You need to run an entire tank of fuel through before going for an E test once a car has sat like yours. Do all the usual tune up checks and then before going to get checked again buy gas with methanol/ethanol blend and add 5+oz of acetone to the fuel.
There's lots of pros and cons about acetone use, Google and decide for yourself. It reduced my emissions that's all I know.

I know you believe that you understand what you think I said but I'm sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

Thanks Dan. The problem I have is that I can only get a one day pass. And each time I have to go to DMV to get that pass. :(

Is the Ignition Timing (12 BTDC) right? I checked the manual and it says 10BDTC (+- 1)

I also checked out a few sites and found this: http://www.smogtips.com/failed-high-hydrocarbons-HC.cfm

What do you think? Thanks!

I I tried pulling the PVC out and my HC lowered. Additionally, there's a rpm range, Ours is 2250-2700. I found if we kept the rpm near 2300 my HC was less.
