KL 36 ECU Speed limiter questions.

Post by IMACHU2 »

Just got my ebay KL36 ECU in the mail today. I read that if you chop the wire in the harness that is going to pin 1M on the ECU you can deactivate the top speed limiter? My car is mechanically a 94 MX-3 GS with a straight neck KLZE in it.

My question is:
If I chop this wire will the speedo still work?, or do I need to put that wire on a switch for those um....need for speed moments?

If you read the diagram, it says the signal goes FROM the speedo TO the ECU, so the speedo gets it first from the sensor in the trans, than relays it to your ECU. If the ECU doesn't see it, it doesn't matter ;)

It's not necessarily sad, until people start trying to rev it to 10k and beyond.

Not being stupid is asking before cutting your wiring harness

Stupid is cutting your SPEED limiter and thinking it's your REV limiter

Seeing how all the USDM ECUs don't even have limiters it's already surprising enough that Mazda put it on that one.

Which would be why I was like  when you guys mentioned speed as opposed to rev, it didn't click that it's a KL36 until you guys replied haha.
