OMG that is an understatement. Lucky for me i have thin hands and arms to get in that area.
I wasnt even sure the filter was there till i took the battery area off. that was nothing.
Getting the filter off the lower hose (those terrible pinch clamp thingy majiggers)
Trying to get the hose loose and get hose off by way of wiggling and pulling.
I cheated... i had to cut the last little tiny bit of hose off cuz it was kind of
chewed up and wouldnt come off.

AND.... i broke a NAIL..... LOL (left thumb)

im trying NOT to rush the progress but i have a trip to Alabama to take this Thursday
the 4th and i really want to drive the white GS to take my son to see his Dad before
he leaves for Afghanistan. So im going to take it tomorrow (Monday) to one of those
places with the diagnosis computer to read the codes for the engine light.
I think i have a sensor out or wire loose as well. So if any one who lives in Alabama
finds a white GS with zebra interior driving up i20 to Birmingham.... its just lil ol me.

You have check engine light on? It's easy to check codes yourself. You have to jump TEN and GND and your CEL light will start blinking. You count how many times it blinks and how fast and then you will know which code it is.

REALLY? You have my FULL attention right now. Ok so i jump the ground and the ten and watch my engine light blink.
Then how do i know what the blinks means? Is this info in my shop manual?

Someone from another MX-3 forum had a problem with dying when they took corners. Turned out the fuel tank had loads of crud in it and would block up pipes as it floated up during corners.

I will admit i NEED a new gas tank. I dug my hand in that thing and pulled out a
BOWL FULL of rust and goo last week when i replaced the fuel pump.
I also hung a magnet on a string (my dads idea) and lowered in the tank and got some crap.
My dad wants me to leave a magnet inside the gas tank but that freaks me out.

So..... how much should a gas tank cost and what kind do i get?

Just open the bottom drain and flush some gas through. If it's not leaking I wouldn't replace it. Spend the money on a new pair of shoes.

Hello, this probably isn't anything but I have been noticing a little chugging between 1500RPM and 2800PRM since I did the swap. Also my fuel mileage has been terrible at 550Km per tank, where my 1.8L use to get 650Km per tank.

with all the fine crud and bulk rust chunks..... flushing the tank will be enough? U sure?
It will continue to flake off, build up, then i will be changing another fuel filter in a month.

i did jump the TEN & GRND today and got the codes. I recorded them, so i have an MOD file of the flashing. LOL!

it will continue to decay but it wont be as fast as you think. it took 15 or so years for it to get to the point its at now. should be good for atleast a year after a cleaning.

start your own thread or use the search button. it could be alot of things but sounds like o2 sensors. 550km a tank isnt bad ither. im getting like 350 before my car is undriveable due to the crud in the bottom of my tank.
