Id reccomend if you DO want one of these catch cans to take a few good pics of where you want it installed. That way jesse can see possbile mounting points/obstructions.

Summit racing has nice black (other colors available) plastic ones that hold 1qt+ for like 16.00 US for you guys who are more about performance.

Because plastic has the same thermal properties of aluminum or double wall stainless steel...

lol seriously?

Its a catch can not an oil tank, not a separation tank/dry sump oil tank, its nothing but a catch can lol...

Do you really think on most of our engines your going to see better performance from the other 2 on something that made to catch oil WASTE?

You'll have to excuse my earlier sarcasm, but it seemed a bit harsh to strike down fowljesse's ingenuity with a link to an inferior product, in the name of 'performance.'

If I can prevent carbon deposits in my throttlebody and intake manifold, then yes, I call that a performance benefit. These engines have enough trouble trying to get sufficient flow to the cylinders.

If you do not understand the intentions behind the design of this catch can, I suggest you read fowljesse's worklog.

I wasn't trying to strike down what he's doing just simply trying to help out other members and people who don't try and search to see what else is out there. Wasn't aimed to effect anything he's doing but merely inform people, hey the 25 dollar ebay ones are to cheap? Well summitracing sells plastic ones which are just as effective as the 50 dollar ones for 16.00.

Honestly you can get a catch can from megan racing for about 50 bucks. there catch can is designed similar to what Moroso/stef's does. In that they have 1 inlet for the vacuum 1 oulet for the vacuum (both which are located at the top of the catch can) and 1 outlet for oil (which is located at the bottom of the catch can). This is a great design for the system as its basically no longer there to just Catch the oil but it separates the air from the oil. Which I believe if your trying to keep carbon build up out of places that the air flows though well this might be what you should be looking into and not a catch can.

Do I see problems with FowlJesse design, yes in that he's got only 1 inlet and 1 outlet. Its not going to be a very effective in separating air/oil and giving that oil it caught from the engine back to the engine. To explain, Yes his setup will work great while there is barely any oil in the actual can, as the air will flow in, and the little droplets of oil will land at the bottom and the air will go out, but if the oil is sitting at the bottom of the can how does it get back out? Well I guess you could wait till the oil level rises so that the vacuum can push it back up the hose and into the engine. but now your no longer separating the air from the oil, in fact the entire purpose of this setup no longer exists at this point. Because all its going to do is catch that oil and once the level rises push it back into the engine with the air from the vacuum.

This is why in order to be truly 100% effective you need a 1 inlet 2 outlet system, with 1 inlet and 1 outlet at the top for air to flow in and out of, then an outlet at the bottom for oil to return back to the engine. This will separate the air from the oil, lower your carbon build up, and continue to feed to provide the engine the oil it needs.

So to sum it up, if your looking for just a catch can that does nothing but catch oil, well this design will work. But its not going to do that great of a job separating air from oil while feeding oil caught back to the engine. Unless Fowljesse simply fixes the design which is simple, remove the hose, drill and tap the bottom for an oil outlet and your done. The only downside to this, with the extra fittings and work done, the price will increase, and unless your looking for a martini shaker style design well, your spending more than whats already out there.
