a few weeks ago i also got a speeding ticket ...
here is the story:
A grey Seat Leon, i hate those cars because of the regular owner.
It never crossed my mind, that it was an undercover speedcatcher cop car
We went into the road i called "private circuit" in my videos. it is a 80kmh limit road
He was behind a Ford Focus, and as soon as the road cleared, the Seat and the Focus pushed it.
I made 2gear ( im a dumb street-racer :( ) and almost hit the tail of the cop car. He moved away and i made 200kmh ... but they didnt have time to catch me on film.
What they did catch, is me braking about a mile after ... and going 160kmh ... when i looked into the rear mirror and saw one cop turning off the survaillance camera and giving me the pull over sign, i almost pissed myself.
ho well, a really dumb kids play, with a 200US cost ... :(

Well, I spent 90 minutes at Mazda in the warmness.... I finally fixed the flip up covers in the back, and put some nice foamy things under them so they don't rattle. I put a cardboard air dam on infront of my grill. Its holding it good. I could put my lip on soon. This week I'll be busy installing the GF's audio (thanks Empire)

Today I was blasting through near foot tall drifts down the highway. It would have looked awesome in the daylight. I noticed the reflection of my tails off of the snow clouds behind when I hit big ones :D Must say car handles nice. Tugs around alot, but easily recovered.

Should make a little vid for Mooneggs

So...

$300 cash, this is what I got.

1991 Mercury Tracer, Auto.
132K on the clock

My logic - It's an auto. It's within my acceptable km's range. It's a tracer. What kind of kid drives a tracer? Most likely old person driven. It's nice and golden under the cover. I can bring it back for credit.

Image
Image

Whatcha think? Its a little oily, I especially noticed under the disty. Good thing I have a full gasket set ready. Oh, and lots of engine cleaner and ambition.

From what I understand, I need the ECU yet (this is even debateable) and a TPS.

On a different note, I had a stange experince today.

It snowed about 1'. I drove to my brother's house and parked in it for... 6 hours. I went to leave (my winters serve me well, and I got onto his yard just fine) but it just wouldn't go. Lots and lots of shoveling, pushing, no go. Pulled off his driveway with his truck. It was acting weird. I drove it 20 feet down the highway and something was definately wrong. It was pulling funny, like I had one wheel steering and a rogue wheel... I was thinking shyte, I broke a control arm or steering rods or something... I stand back and look, fronts are okay, but the rear tire... is only half full with snow, like the bottom half. Click. My ebrake was frozen on, but only one tire was stuck. we hit it with a 2x4, but it wouldn't budge. I drove it across the highway and it didn't break loose. We had to pull off the tire, and whack it on the studs.

It was frightening, then funny, then cold, and then it was all good...

Thats the motor. If anyone with more experience than me can point out something out of place... I would be very happy. I don't know jack about this motor.

But I'm learning. Tore off everything on the exhaust side today, and got the timing belt off. Cleaned it all as best I could. 1/2" thick muddy oily grime...

Pictures are taken at random times...

Didn't do much today. Painted lots of exhaust side parts, removed more on teh pully side, got the disty and I believe thermometer housing off.

I have a short nose crank motor, which is bad, but I'm going to deal with it. One difference is the oil pump and seal.

Pickytures, because everyone loves those.

I'm waiting on a waterpump kit from Ebay, (projected arrival is two weeks) and I need to do head gasket and valve stem seals, and then my refurb is complete. I nearly finished my I/M tonight. Just TB to go and paint. After that, actual swap begins.

I'll run crapo conventional for 10 minutes on a cheapass filter. I know dust an some residual rust is inside the motor. The rest of everything should be clean. My oilpan is spotless inside.

I used mainly a razor blade, and then a wire wheel, and then a brass wheel on my Dremel for gasket surfaces. They're really pretty.

Yup. I'll work on it for another 5 hours tomorrow. Should get the H/G done, or at least I hope so. Get the oilpan back on with the oil pump... thats about it.

For those of you who have taken the pans off of a BP, did your motor have a main bearing support plate? Its kinda like another cover for the crankshaft. When I pull off my oil pan, I can see my crankshaft directly. Normal?

Ugh, I found out why I have a different oil pump.

Three words:

Short Nose Crank.

Thats bad. Oh well. I'll make it work.

Waterpump/timing kit arrived today.

How hard should it be to turn the waterpump? Does it need some pre-lube?

That, and my head is out being looked at, maybe cleaned up a bit. Not in my budget to do lots of work...

Okay, I know this has been mentioned elsewhere, but I want to go over it again...

Why does my car shudder under hard acceleration in the middle-top half of seccond? It does it a tiny bit if I use third in the same range, but not nearly as much.

Its also only when I have traction. Spinning on snow is a very smooth progression.

Is it suspension related? Is this at the wheels, or at the engine/tranny? Is it illegal to drive without a hood? I want to watch my motor.
