I just got my 92 4c Mx-3 and started tuning it up change da timing, pump, plugs, wires, pick up my new cap and rotor and gas filter. but wondering if this will stop the rough idling it has been doing lik shakes like hell inside when in p and N also misses so wat else should i do to fix this???
When air leaks into the engine AFTER the VAF (little box or cylnder in your intake) has 'measured' it.
Lets say you took the intake right off right at the throttle body. You gunned it, and the engine sucks in all the air it wants, and the VAF will read minimal airflow (because its not even atatched, the engine isn't sucking the air through it) So the ECU will be telling the injectors to give the right about of gas and distributor spark at the time that would be needed for idle, meanwhile the engine is trying to run at 6K, the car still thinks its at idle (not really, because it has other speed sensors) The point is it gets confused because the engine is going faster, but as far as it can tell, not taking any air, so maybe the car figures you're downshifting? Either way its all confused and it will run rough.
So, a vaccuum leak means that unaccounted for air is getting into the engine, wrecking the measurements that the car needs to run nicely.
Or even better, its leaking after the throttle body. Now the engine has no idea whats going on, the throttle is closed, no air is coming through the VAF, but the engine is surging? Once again it runs rough, trying to correct the problem.
