I have this as well - only happens during the first 5 minutes while driving the car and then it goes away.

Well that's $255 I'll never see again.

I call them and ask how it's going. They say "It's done. Come get it."

I say, "I want the guy who drove it yesterday and actually recreated the problem to drive it again to make sure that it's fixed."

They say, "He has and it's fixed."

I talk to said guy and say, "Are you sure the problem is solved?"

He says, "If you listen really hard and know what to listen for, you can just hear a really slight noise from the right side now, but it's not bad at all. The problem is solved."

So I pick it up and bring it back to work. No problem so far, but work is only a few blocks away. I go to leave for home and once I get it out on the open road, it is EXACTLY the same as when I dropped it off. I asked them before they did the work, "what if its not the wheel bearing?" They said, "We can only diagnose it so far, until we have to replace parts to determine if the problem is fixed." "So if it's not fixed, I'm out $255?" "Yup, you would be."

I have decided that they are idiots and I am going to burn their shop down.

don't feel bad I had my wheel bearing replaced too and it didn't fix it... I think it is the ball joint or tie rod end...

although I only paid $100....

Man, that sucks, but that's how it is. Unless someone is an exceptional expert on the particular part of the car they're trying to find a problem in, troubleshooting is usually hit and miss. Even an honest mechanic who isn't looking to screw you over can make a mistake and replace a part only to find out it wasn't the source of the problem.

Although most of the time they ARE looking to screw you over, and it's the risk you take every time you have someone else look at your car.

Which is why it's always good to get a second opinion. Take your car to several shops and have them check it out.
