i was asking about this on another thread i madeatlantamx3 wrote:hahahaha
good luck actually seeing anything.
with no dispersion pattern, they will be worse than the stock headlights.
and i was curious
maybe it wont work at all but maybe it wont make much of a difference... well c
ill update u guys, i still have my stock headlights
so i was thinking of comparing one with dispersion pattern and one without c how much a difference it would actually make
im not driving my car around
its in the garage getting prepped for paint so i can pull it out and test it
i guess i was jus curious

your headlights work like this: the light is reflected by the concaved chrome reflector in the back.ScooterBovine wrote:I may be wrong, but don't our lights work like a flashlight? A bulb shines into a surrounding "chromish" material which then reflects that light forward? So, painting that "chromish" material would render it completely null and inoperable?
the light bounces off and on to the dispersion pattern which disperses the light
throughout the lens by collecting on the ridges...
instead of passing by like it would with a clear lens.
notice how there are more ridges near the chrome part thats closer to the lens
thats because the source light is not able to reflect there normally for obvious reasons so they use a dispersion pattern to collect the light in that area (the light collects on the ridges then bounces back on to the chrome part and back and fourth) giving the impression that light is been emitted from that part of the lens
as well
sooo since no source light is being reflected from that area it is really not that important i can get rid of it by painting it over, so i can expect no light to be "emitted" from that area whatsoever.

but really the light should be same to brighter but just not as focused
they use the ridges to reflect straying light away from traffic and toward certain zones beside the vehicle but the main light is still going to be reflected in front on the vehicle because of the concaved reflector.
