Driver's power window

Post by Tropical Emerald 1993 »

sometimes gets stuck and won't go up, only down. After a while it gets up normally. Is it the switch or the motor?

It sounds like the window motor to me.

Today I opened the window and it wouldn't go up, only down. I parked the car for 30 min, started it and it's still stuck. Then I drove like 50 meters and it went up fine

Are you sure it's the motor? (before I deassemble the door)

Im 95% sure thats what it is. My blazer would do the same thing and it was the motor. Drive a little go up a little, drive a little go up a little.

Try popping out the window switch and testing for 12 volts at the contacts when you press up on the switch (Make sure your ignition is on). If you have 12 volts then it's a pretty good bet that either the motor or the power window relay is hooped. If no voltage, try shorting the contact that should have 12 volts with a 12 volt source and see if the window goes up, if it goes up, the switch is hooped (DO NOT SHORT THE GROUND CONTACT WITH 12 VOLTS).

Hope this helps.

Try putting some silicone lubricant on the "rubber" trim all around the window.
What usually happens is the rubber dries out and binds the window when it tries to go up. Sometimes movement/vibration might loosen it - sometimes rain water will loosen it - or just heat might make it expand.......

The correct fix is to replace the trim i guess...

Ok I think it's a switch because passenger's window only goes down from the driver's switch and only goes up with passenger's switch

so I need help, which wires here do I connect for any window to go up/down?

Ok, switch and windows are running fine now for some reason. Tested with test light few times and found that green wire is for down, red is up. I only bleed some dust and put some wd40 around the windows. And there are some yellow slick parts inside the switch, I have no idea what that's for so I removed most of it :o

My driver window only comes down like 3" until it gets "stuck" then I can hear the motor whirring. I even tried 'helping' to push it down and it still doesn't budge. It goes up and down fine within the 3" and the passenger side works fine so can I assume that it's just the motor or could it be the entire actuator system too?

Could be bad gears in the motor since you can hear it working, but nothing is happening.

Ok I had this happen again. It's not the switch so it must be the wires or the moror, probably wires because I don't hear the motor running. Anyway I'll probably have to disassemble the door

LHD. But something crossed my mind.. my test light works also with current below 12V so I must check that up again.
