Search.

Intake, headers, exhaust, wires, plugs, ignition... Those are all things that will help the KL get some more power.

I guess what Im asking is what helps out the KL most over other engines.....

intake/exhaust/ignition etc is the usual for any car......but most engines have 1 or 2 unique things that especially hold back that specific engine

just wondering what the KL's are

custom intake manifold and megasquirt will give u nice results although with the custom intake u will lose a fair amount of torque but u will gain much more top end power.. pair that along with ur basic intake and headser and exhaust and youd be good to go

You can also add cams onto there aswell as a Fidinza Flywheel

If I had the money, I would get my heads worked on in every way I could. 3 valve job, cams, port and polish, springs, valves, ect.

Then I would get a custom I/M. Bore and stroke the KLZE engine to 2.7L and put 350ZX pistons in it aswell as Mustang rods.

They will fit and it would be a really good bullet proof setup.
Rebel2k was making about 395whp out of a KLDE 2.7L engine with a similar setup on a KLDE block with KLDE heads and everything else being stock

I though that seemed way too much for an N/A setup. I checked and it was as I though, that's his boosted power

How do you bore out while still using stock pistons?

I think he was saying that you can get that same HP number using stock internals. Rebel was just using other parts for bragging rights. Its kinda true also, because Rebel made about that same number on a bone stock KLDE with the same psi, its just not as reliable in the long run.

I disagree...

Mind you, we're talking about ZE mods, not boosting a ZE. Of course increasing the displacement (and compressing with the 300zx N/A pistons) will yeild more more over the stock setup. ,As for being easy and cheap, not likely. But for those seaking N/A power (like myself), it seems like a very interesting setup that I am currently considering in the future.

Although this is off topic of this thread, i'm sure it is is a special setup. The fact of improving the motor's durability under boost is a plus. Although it's possible to make the same numbers with either stock or Rebel's setup, that's not all that matters. Although I don't know the compression with the 300zx TT pistons, even if compression was the same, but the bore was increased, there sould be an improvement in N/A pre-boost power. As well, with more air being drawn into the motor, I wouldn't be surprised that with that extra "air" eventually coming out it would aid in making the turbo spool quicker; although that's just a theory, the only real way would be to compare dyno sheets. In the end, even tho the final max HP and TQ could be the same, there could be significantly more usable power and larger power band with Rebel's 2.66L setup.

I agree thats why I said it is more reliable in the long run, and yeah there probably is more usable power. But then again, when is 400whp in an MX-3 usable?

There's plenty of use for a 400hp Mx-3...it's the praticality that's questionable, but when you have a 400hp car, who care? ;)
