How much of a pain in the a-- is it to change a water pump in my k8?

Look @ the timing belt how to in the FAQ, its underneath the timing belt, so may as well do the timing belt at the same time.

I just had the timing belt done, maybe 10,000kms ago.

The most annoying part for me was getting off the timing belt cover. After that it wass pretty striaght forward. The mount near the pump has to be taking off and u hold the motor up with a jack(least how i did it) And its pretty easy. Once i got the timing covers off it took about...an hour maybe...less.

I agree, the biggest PITA was the covers.
You can remove the WP without taking the timing belt off. Helps to keep the timing straight.
