the early BP 90-94 - has a black valve cover and a separate timing cover - almost direct fit for SOHC
the late model BP - 95-98 - has a metallic gray valve cover and the timing cover is not separate - looks exactly like a 1.6DOHC engine - just bigger - almost direct fit for DOHC
BP from a 90-94 protege
1.8L BP from 95-98 protege
94 Mx-3 Precidia
1.8L 4Cyl DOHC newGen BP (used to be B6DE) ATX

The reason its a stright forward swap in a 92-93 sohc mx-3 is do to the wiring. You can use the protege LX wiring harness and ecu. Plug it in (NO cutting of the wires, splicing or dicing) and fire it up.
Another reason is if u do it the cheap getto way the org. sohc wiring harness can be used to run the bp but u'll have cut wires extend wires and a extra 2 wires for the VCIS to work and open up ur sohc ecu and solder them to the pins not used in the sohc ecu. if not u'll not get the full potinial of the BP and also the sohc ecu is limited to 6500 rev limit where the bp ecu is 7500 rev limit.
On the 94-96 mx-3 the wiring is a little more complicated

You sir, sound like your asking for a 1st gen mx6 GT.
But in all seriousness, a 90-94 BP-DE is plentiful and could be had for around $500. And since you say your father is into drag racing, then I am pretty sure that he knows a thing or two about changing out a motor. Very simple. But keep in mind that the BP in stock form is no speed monster.

Both the 1.6 dohc in ur car the 1.6 sohc in the 92-93 mx-3 models and the 1.8 BP in the mazda protege are all b-series engines. kind of like honda b-series engines b16 b18. the other engine that looks like ur is a1.8 dohc BP that pretty much plugs and play with the 94-96 mx-3.xtreme velocity wrote:ariesdude i have a question..y does my motor in my 94, look just like the 1.8L BP from 95-98 protege?? here is a pic of mine..

Re: New Guy..
Well man, after you start working on it here and there, you will get the hang of it. You can learn many secrets from the other guys on here to do a little here and thee to make her go. I have gone through 5 cars meaning my mx-3 is the 5th. I used to have a '86 Ford Escort EXP and wanted to drop in a 2.2 turbo 626 motor. I also had a 240sx that I beat the crap out of by drifting it. Cars are fun you just have to gain a basic knowlege and go from there.mx3TheOnlyLoveOfMyLife wrote:you and me are in the same boat, cept mine had a coolant leak, bad timing belt, and a little fender damage when i got it. Best way to learn is to have someone that knows what they are doing on cars help you out. Like you working on the car and them telling you what to do. This way you get that natural hands on experience. It doesn't hurt to try.
