I'm assuming that you already asked your local Mazda dealer and they told you no???? Although not new, but a viable alternative would be to geta really really fresh ZE motor through an engine importer. It may be possible to get a ZE with approximately 30k kms on it. Just a suggestion. A search on ZE will reveal all sorts of added bonuses. This may help some => http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazda_K_engine#KL

Still trying to find a donor engine [ze] at low k,s.
But would like to keep her original with 1.8,
Not fussy on power.
Will do the change when I find a good ZE ,
But I will try to chase up new engine....
Have had my engine rebuilt cost heaps and only lasted 30thous.

its cheaper to go KLDE than the 1.8 because the 1.8 is harder to find. in australia u can even finf a kfze or k8ze...as long us its a k series. get the ecu from that donor car

Something an't right here, these engines if looked after last well into
the 250,000 range!

You could buy out of nz a klze or k8 at a fairly resonable price.

here are your choices..the following engines will fit into your mx-3 with no problems.

used K8 - slow, not many with really low km's
New K8 - EXPENSIVE. not worth the money
Used KL-DE from Probe GT/MX-6's - 170hp, $500 (CAD), readily available
Used imported KLZE - Low KM's, lots of power (200hp), available, but not as common as the KL-DE. Watch out for scams. about
$800-1200

If you want a replacement engine, not caring how long it lasts, how many km's, or how much power, as long as it runs, get a used K8.

If you just want to replace your engine, not caring to much about power gains, lower km used engine, get a KL-DE. Also get one if you plan to boost your engine.

If you want power at at awsome price, go KLZE.
