Called mazda for auto tranny price
Called mazda for auto tranny price
Hi guys. Well, yesterday I called a Mazda dealership to get the price for a 1993 RS auto transmission in America:
$ 2100 ---- transmission price
$ 600 ---- core charge
TOTAL ----- $ 2700 --- (before tax)
After core return --- TOTAL $2100
I just wanted to post this because I read alot on this Auto Tranny Forum of how people pay almost $ 2000 for a tranny rebuild. At least with a new one from Mazda, you at least know it's new and there is a warranty of some type with it, since it is coming from Mazda.
Hope this helps save some unlucky souls from being over charged for a rebuild, if you can't find a used auto tranny in good shape.

Thanks man, good to know. I'll likely be having to replace mine soon. It was having issues when the 2.5L died. Amazing places charge $2000+ to rebuild one when you can get a factory one at that price. (though I wouldn't be surprised if it's a factory rebuild) The local tranny shop here quoted me $1500-2500+. Guess they don't want my business if they can't give me a better idea than that!?!!! Oh yea, too Bad Mazda won't take 2 cores - I got a dead one in the backyard with a hole in it, haha. Shot the spider gears clean out the case on that one. Bastard drove around a parking lot fine but wouldn't back up, (and backing up was my only option), so got mad and revved it to about 5 grand - then it went into gear, lmao!

There's a place here in dallas that sells transmission parts wholesale..
My roommate did a complete transmission rebuild on a ford taurus and parts only cost him about 135.00 after tax. Car runs like new now.
Transmissions shops charge a crapload merely for labor..
If your paying more than $700 for parts.. your getting ripped off..
in my opinion

This is true, but how many of us have actually looked inside an ATX? I commend your friend for being able to rebuild his Tauras tranny himself, but that's beyond alot of people, even good mechanics. I can't say for sure, but I bet our ATX's are alot more compact inside. As for $1300 for a converter, that's freakin rediculous! If anybody's in the market for one, I may have one for sale. Too bad Level10 doesn't supply them for the 1.8L ATX, and as a piece of forwarning, NO, the 2.5L converter will NOT fit, even if L10 tells you it will.Transmissions shops charge a crapload merely for labor..

The tranny rebuild kit should only cost $320 and labor another $500-700
For $2300, I could go to http://www.levelten.com, send my automatic transmission to them and they will rebuild it so it can stand 500ft torque. In other words, make it reliable and able to handle alot of power
Sorry if I offend you, but your stupid if you actually paid $1500-$2300 for a tranny from Mazda.
You might aswell sell your car for $500 and buy a new low mileage MX3 with a manual for $2800.
by the way, at http://www.levelten.com you can get a Torque Converter (high stall) for about $600

Overall outside diameter is different, as well as the splines on the shaft. I've got one and tried. [/quote
