ESPEC Headlights *warning, 7 pics inside*

Post by Gro Harlem »

Finally got my EDM headlights when I went home this weekend. For some reason I didn't have to pay any custom's on them either :) .

<img src="http://goliath.frostburg.edu/wfellows0/ ... G_3690.jpg" alt=" - " />

In the pic above, notice how there are two screwholes below the adjuster on the left. Thats the up/down adjuster. it had a motor that was used for the 'auto-leveling' system installed in european models. I removed it since I didn't have the auto-level switch or harnesses to get it to work. If i can get some, i'll install it, but until then, its just extra weight & bulk that I don't need.

<img src="http://goliath.frostburg.edu/wfellows0/ ... G_3692.jpg" alt=" - " />

Turns out they don't direclty bolt in. The headlight housing has some excess plastic on the bottom that might need trimming. I didn't trim mine, but I might later on, you can tell in the pics that the passenger one is really flexing the bumper due to the larger gap on the bottom.

<img src="http://goliath.frostburg.edu/wfellows0/ ... G_3694.jpg" alt=" - " />

<img src="http://goliath.frostburg.edu/wfellows0/ ... G_3697.jpg" alt=" - " />

<img src="http://goliath.frostburg.edu/wfellows0/ ... G_3702.jpg" alt=" - " />

Whats sweet about these is they are ONE PEICE. The up/down & left/right adjusters turn the bulb within the housing, not the entire headlight like our stock POS DOT ones. You can easily see it moving too when you turn the screws to adjust them.

They seem like they are bright, but they just spread the light out much better than the stock ones. One of the H4 Osram bulbs was busted when I got them, so I bought a 9003 POS philips bulb for a temporary fix until I reinstall my HID kit or I might just get some Osram bulbs from Germany & sell the HID kit if it doesn't help.

The beam pattern spreads the light out completely across the entire 180 degree's where hte headlights start. I can see the sides of people's cars as I pass them lit up pretty well. I aimed them so they shined pretty far down the road, but it still doesn't seem to shine high enough to blind people's rearviews.

Here is a crappy pic of the beam pattern...i was driving when I took it, hence why its blurry. I'll try to go onto a dark road and take pics of them while the car is parked later. Unfortunately I never got any DOT light pics to compare these to.

humm strange that you have problems with the size of the headlights. I have seen serveral cars here with the MS bumper and it looks ok. if you need any pictures of how the headlights are mounted on a espec mx let me know

www.ebay.de

good luck, they are rare as ballz & when they are on there, they go for 100-150 euro's. Plus shipping to the states = about 200+ dollars per headlight.

I had to buy mine seperately. It took about 4 months to secure both headlights lol.

You have to remove the bumper to fit those lights on properly so they do not flex your bumper. They look exactly like J-spec lights, sans the glass lens and a flare to the right.

if some of you really need a set I can source some used ones from some car scrapyards here in Denmark. I can get quotes online from them. or I can get new ones from Mazda if you got the $$$ :D
they do not have the auto-leveling system though. if you want those you need to buy german ones.

I've priced the glass one here in Australia and they are consistently about A$300 each (US$235). Add shipping and it looks like you got a pretty good deal Gro.

Funny thing is that as I've priced them some motor wreckers have said they've got the ones with plastic lenses but still with H4 lamps. And guess what - $300 each still!
