Re: black Altezza
ok, I live in the US (Kansas to be specific), and while driving around, I noticed that the only color of rear turn signals that I see are red or yellow.... after doing a little research, I found that the rear turn signals are supposed to be red or yellow.... so does this mean my new altezzas are not legal (clear/white signal)? and if so, how much is the fine/ticket for having them if I get pulled over? Any one else have any experience with this?

Re: black Altezza
You can put an amber globe in them. Should be able to pick them up at any auto store.

Yep, same as we have guards and boots, not fenders and trunks!

I did a little more research, and discovered that putting an amber bulb (globe) in there still won't make the lights legal... although I don't see how a patrol car will notice at night. Anyway... anyone ever get pulled over for their altezzas?

Why do they make amber globes / bulbs / lamps then? I know its certainly legal here and a lot of new cars come out with them as standard. I also noticed when I installed mine they had a stamp of approval on them. I assumed that was a US standard.I did a little more research, and discovered that putting an amber bulb (globe) in there still won't make the lights legal... although I don't see how a patrol car will notice at night. Also I don't know about you guys, but mine doesn't use the inner most red lenses which I assume to be for a third and forth brake light.

Re: black Altezza
check out
http://fmvss108.tripod.com/taillamps_all_clear.htm
from what I understand, the bulbs have to be SAE approved, and they haven't approved any red or amber bulbs.
and for more general altezza bashing, look at
http://fmvss108.tripod.com/taillamps_altezza.htm
so, as long as we keep the RED side reflectors on, we should be ok (if I'm reading this right), except for the fact the turn signal is clear...
overall, I'm just confused by all of this. I'm going to keep my altezzas on until the Police give me a written notice that they need to be fixed. Then I'll see about new bulbs (globes).

Have you got Altezzas now and running the turn signals with clear globes, er bulbs? Why not just change them to amber ones now? Might save you the hassle of being pulled over, especially, as you say, at night. Running with clear lights is just asking for it! Cops would see a flashing white light a mile off

Re: black Altezza
Ok, I got ripped. The guy never responded after 7 days and numberous e-mails. I paid right away as well. The seller was "go_fast_r". I have filed a claim with paypal and put in some bad feedback for the guy.
but just to warn you.

Re: black Altezza
GoFastR and Toms Motorsports are located at the same adress too... I found out by having some friends knock at TomsMotorsports, because they never responded to emails, to pick up black altezza's- The guy said: Pay now and I will ship in 3-4 weeks when they are back in stock.
No way I wanted to give the guy cool cash, and tried to get an adress for the only other ebayseller with black altezza: GoFastR
Surprise, surprise....same adress as Toms...emailed them both, GoFastR never responded and Toms wanted money upfront, because they were not in stock. Asked him about the ebayauction and told him to just let me login and click "buy now" and get the altezza's he had there, answer was still the same: Pay fullprice now, we ship when they are in stock, 3-4 weeks.
Just plain weird way to treat customers. Bah.

Re: black Altezza
Never got pulled over myself but a friend w/altezza's and clear/white turn sig bulbs/globes on his Eclipse got pulled over. It was an expensive ticket too and he was lucky they didn't impound his car right there for the safety violation since it was the result of a mod. It was daylight so they let him drive away with an inspection ticket to "make the repair" and a fine.Originally posted by VampireSix:

Most state laws prohibit ANY clear/white rear lights except for the lic. plate and rear back-up lights. So if you are running w/clear white rear turn sigs, someone behind ya could end up in an accident reacting improperly to your white turn sig.
I have black altezza's and tried out those "silver-chrome" rear sig bulbs that are amber when lit. The effectiveness when lit up was waaaay too weak for my comfort so I put in regular amber turn sig bulbs. (sheez, they look like a couple of egg yolks, oh well...) That might still be a violation here in Maryland, not sure but no po approaching from behind has ever pulled me over for em and I get the feeling that local & state cops notice my car or MX-3's in general when they see one. Ya know how we look fast even at the posted speed limit... heck, even when we're parked right!?

Re: black Altezza
You say those silver/chrome bulbs that light amber are weak? Those arn't the Sylvania SilverStars, are they? I just picked up some of those and are going to put them in today... spent $20 for them, so they had better work. Anyway, I talked to one of our police officers that works security for my theatre on the weekends, and he said that HE, or any of his fellow officers, wouldn't give a ticket/fine on the first offense, but any state trooper would do whatever he could to make my life miserable.
