Passing Emissions with a ZE
Passing Emissions with a ZE
hey everyone, just wondering... since the KLZE has no EGR how do u guys pass emissions... my guess would be just leaving the K8 ECU and Mani... but is that my only option? other then under the table passing.

Re: Passing Emissions with a ZE
yeah it's pretty much your only option..use 94 octane gas too when you'll do your test..reduces emissions

Re: Passing Emissions with a ZE
Well that is rather ****ty...if those are the only way to pass emissions. But if one leaves the ZE ecu and mani on how badly does it fail emissions? Is it on the marginal pass or complete fail?
Friends are just enemies who lack the testicular fortitude to kill you.

ze ecu = no egr = don't pass emission tests

Re: Passing Emissions with a ZE
the millenia IM has EGR right? so then if i got that, all i would need to do is have the K8 ECU when emissions time came... right?
oh and is there anyway u could modify ur ze ecu to accept EGR... or is that just way to hard/expensive?

the millenia a-spec manifold yes have egr (that's the one I currently have) but the j-spec doesn't (eunos 800)...sure if you use the k8 you should be able to use egr

Re: Passing Emissions with a ZE
Keep in mind the K8 EGR sucks *** and hardly ever pass emissions.
also wouldnt you be sacrificing power buy running the K8 ecu/mani, and is that the intention when doing a ZE swap. NO.

Re: Passing Emissions with a ZE
the easyest way to pass the e-test is to swap on a FORD valve cover from a probe.
then when you go for your e-test, tell them its a hot-rod and you need a hot-rod test, show them the engine with the ford valve cover and tell them its a 2.5 from a ford probe, and that was never a factory option (obvously).
the other way to pass, is to have a good cat, and a working egr system.
if you have a ZE computer and need your egr to work, you can hook up a micro switch to your throttle (like for nitrous) and have it set to activate at 1/4 throttle, then have the switch acivate a relay that will activate your egr solinoid which will open your egr valve.
just remember to disconnect it after the test.

Re: Passing Emissions with a ZE
if im telling them that its a hotrod and that i swapped the engine y couldn't i just say i have a ZE? is it illegal or something?Originally posted by curtklze:

why is telling them "its a hotrod" make it different?
sorry if im asking stupid questions but every other car ive had has been able to pass emissions...

Re: Passing Emissions with a ZE
if you put on the ford valve cover its more obvious that its not stock
Re: Passing Emissions with a ZE
So could you swap the ecu for the e test and then swap it back after providing you have the intake with the egr valve.
Also someone asked if the ze ecu can be programed to accept the egr valve and make it work, was never really answered, can it be done?
