times better with vris tied open

Post by goldsberry1 »

before my timing belt broke i ran a few times. all of my times (in the 1/8th) were slower than last time. this time i felt alot better than the first time too. i did beat a turbo accord (twice) and a celica gt. but my times were slower. my fastest mph was 69, before it was 70. i know it wasnt much but i had done alot that made it run better. the first time i had the vris tied open but not the second time. i was getting ready to try them open after the run when i broke my timing belt. any input? thanks

So did you get a faster time w/ or w/o VRIS tied open?

Hmm I sincerly doubt your times were better with the VRIS open you lose the majority of your torque curve if you do that on a mainly stock K series motor. There are dyno plot on PT of someone who lost 12whp and 30ft/lbs with non function vris. Maybe you should post up your slips so we can look at them.

his times could have been better if he was incuring traction problems.. he cut lose with a hard launch and got a better time cause it was already set for the topend.

precisely why I asked for slips, maybe we could help nim out a little, see if he is launching too high and such. I only launch at 1700rpms....

i would try to post some but they are on the other side of the world from me. my wife is sending them to me soon. when i get them i will post them. but the fastest time with them tied open was faster than the fastest time with them closed (or on there own). i hope i didnt confuse any one.

Not that odd. Launching from low idle can give better results then slipping the clutch a whole lot.
