it is a ridiculously easy swap. ITs like replacing your engine since the KLDE has the exact same dimensions as your pos K8DE

yea the swap is definitely easy and worth the time. my k8 was slow as hell till i did the swap and now with only intake and exhaust on the new motor i love it. Definitely a big difference.

Not too bad. You need to keep the 92 distributor, or do a small rewiring job on the 3-pin connector if you use the '95 (which is more reliable).

You will be ok on the ECU, it should have 3 connectors like the '92.

The only other difference I've heard of is that the wiring run for the knock sensor may need re-routing to the other side of the engine compartment. Give it a good look on both cars before you start undoing things.

cheers fellas, i was planning on labelling everything up as i disconnect everything......

IanL, the possible re-wiring job on the distributor....would you mind telling me what wouuld need to be done in order to put the 95 distributor on? (would you leave the 92 dizzie on? or swap the 95 on?)

Also, the ECU. Should i take the ECU from the Probe and wack into the MX?

And where in the UK are u from? - cheers

I would use the 95 because it is more reliable. The rewiring data is in http://www.mx-3.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=15;t=005721#000001

Use the ECU and the VAF from the Probe - that way you will be giving the engine exactly what the designer intended. Everything will work together the way it should.

I'm from Camberley, Surrey, so not that far away ;)

MX-3 with K8 makes 0-100km/h (0-60mph) in 8.5sec. With the KL-DE it should make it on around 6.5sec.

KL03, with a ZE ecu / VAF, MS8 Manifold, ZE injectors, 67 MM TB, cold air intake, With that setup, its like 10-15 HP less then a TRUE ZE stock.

Add Headers, Exhaust, Buy kl31 cams change compression ratio you basically have a ze man, theyre built off the exact same block just different timing different compression ratio and different cams. If you can do taht **** yourself, its so worth it.
1992 Mazda mx3 gs / 03 / ms8 intake manifold / klze 67mm bored TB/ Custom CAI / 2.5 Custom exhaust / Drift kit front and sides/ CF Invader hood / 17'' MSR gunmetals with chrome lip / Tockico Blues / Suspension technique springs / Leather interrior/ B&M SS / Fully customized interrior (Red and black) / Corvette Red 00 Paint w/ white, blue, gold pearl / Shaved altezzas w/ black trim/ Front rear strut bars / ze ecu ( I think that's all )

I've also been considering the switch to a KLDE but haven't been concerned about mileage (this is my commuter car). What kind of MPG's are people getting after the swap?

Most do better on gas mileage with a klde or klze mx-3.

I agree with the gas mileage, if you swap for a clean KL-DE the gas mileage will proly be better, I used to have a 626 and I seemed to get better mileage than my GS
