Re: Kl-de build up! how much hp is possible?
The Kf was never in an American car. It was only a Japanese replacement engine.
It's not the best idea to shave the heads to raise the compression. Taking away to much from the head's will retard cam timing slightly. If thery're warped or just a little out of level go ahead and clean it up with a light cut. Your best option is to run a higher compression piston (ZE piston or even higher).

Ze heads have larger exhaust valves aswell. Flow alot better then DE heads too.

Re: Kl-de build up! how much hp is possible?
I dont have any proof. But i remember reading it somewhere... The only reason i beleived it was that some ZE's have tendancies to break retainers more then DE's so i throught it was because of the larger valves.
If i'm wrong prove it.

Valves are same size, discussed here and on probetalk many times, don't have to prove a thing to you.Originally posted by T-Rose:

Re: Kl-de build up! how much hp is possible?
it's because ZE's have fiercer cams not because of larger valves. If you were to say put K8 cams in a ZE block the valve retainers would last forever...but performance would suck.Originally posted by T-Rose:

Re: Kl-de build up! how much hp is possible?
yes it will suck. I did it once out of curiosity...idle was incredible. Dead smooth. but accelleration was pathetic. Totally gutless.Originally posted by BucktownMx3:

the fuel map on the K8 is better than the KL. (that's why a K8 ecu will work great on a ZE if a ZE ecu is not available)

Re: Kl-de build up! how much hp is possible?
about the ecu's, i would suggest you check bulk buy section on probetalk. This guy can program a chip for you, put whatever you want for VRIS points, and air/fuel I think. This will be very helpful for your build up engine. The only problem is that you will need someone to solder that instead of your existing.
Check out my ride and leave some feedback please!
