Re: Idle speed help
I just went through this. In my case it was the distributor. My car was doing the same thing for quite a while when it died one day and wouldn't start. The shop replaced the distributor and now everything runs fine. Good luck!

Re: Idle question...
I got the car back from the dealer today. It seems to run fine. The culprit was the distributor. I don't understand why it caused the problems I had, but at least the car is fixed. Thanks again to everyone who replied.

Re: Idle question...
Okay, round two at the dealer. The car is still not fixed. Now it won't even start! I am very mechanically inclined but this one has me stumped. I've tried everyone's suggestions. Anybody got any other ideas?
TIA

Re: where to buy shop manual?
If you MUST have one, the dealer can hook you up. They cost ~$75US.

Re: what should the RPM be at while car in "P"
The idle speed for the 4 cylinder is 700-800 in park, 640-700 for the 6 cylinder. Sounds like you need to adjust it up.
Good luck!

Re: Seatbelt track
This was part of a recall several years ago. The track wears out to the point that the cable inside won't move. The dealer "should" replace it for free - as part of the recall. Good luck!

Re: after computer swap.... idle problem
It sounds like an air leak in the intake hose(s) somewhere between the throttle body and the air sensor. Good luck!

Re: Idle question...
Cleaning my throttle body did NOT fix this problem. Neither did replacing the by-pass air control (BAC) valve (that's the thing on the bottom of the throttle body - and yes, it can be replaced separate from the throttle body. ~$425US). I had the car at the dealer last week and they said nothing is ...

Re: open loop at idle
My '92 5 speed seems to be doing the same thing. Have you figured your's out yet? I've been told it's anything from the PCV valve to the O2 sensors to the air flow sensor! Mine will be in the shop on Wednesday. Hopefully the computer will tell me what's wrong.

Re: Constant flooding
Has your mechanic made sure that the injectors are firing (opening and closing) properly? Fuel injectors are fragile things and if the tips crack or they stick open the engine will flood. I ahd this happen on a Nissan I used to own. Hope this helps. Good Luck!

Idle question...
Help! Has anyone had this happen? I have a 92 V6. When it's cold outside, 20 to 40 degrees F, the engine starts fine, warms up fine, idles fine. Then, after the coolant has reached its normal operating range, the idle starts to hunt. It fluxuates between 300 and 1700, or sticks at a high idle of ...
