Re: KLZE sounds like wonkamobile after replacing heads
Good to know about the HLA's / SLA's. I didn't know that, so it's a good thing we didn't blindly use the Probe GT heads. The Millenia heads are HLA's, I think (everything basically looked the same as our heads except for the KL01 cams). The problem turned out to be that we got the cam sprockets back...

KLZE sounds like wonkamobile after replacing heads
We just replaced out heads in our KLZE with the heads off a millenia (it's what was available in the junkyard). We kept the cams from the KLZE and the rest of the head from the millenia. Because this is a LeMons race, to keep the price down we ordered a gasket set from ebay. We aligned the cams, put...

Re: Where to buy springs and keepers for ZE head?
Keeping an eye out on probetalk sounds like a good idea. More than a few DE's there, I'd imagine. ![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)
When I click on their "for sale" forum, though, it says I need 25 posts in order to access it. Since I don't own a probe, I've never posted there.![Sad :(](./images/smilies/icon_sad.gif)

Re: what other radiators are compatible with the V6 MX3
I went on a hunt for a while for a radiator that would fit and came up empty. In the end I went with an Mx6 radiator. I think the Probe radiator also fits; at least, everything's in the right place. We bought one as a spare for our next race just in case. I wouldn't worry too much about the plastic ...

Where to buy springs and keepers for ZE head?
As predicted, we did drop a valve in the last LeMons race. We broke multiple parts on the head -- I think four HLA's and two camshaft caps. The HLA's were on the intake side of cylinders 4 and 6. (Forgive me for a moment, because I'm looking at the diagram in the workshop manual and trying to make s...

Re: Help! I ran 3 laps at LeMons and killed 3 cylinders!
I wasn't involved in the timing, but when we replaced the belt we used this guide: http://home.comcast.net/%7Emmunoz70/z/leskatimingbelt.doc" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (very nice guide -- it's so thorough it's almost insulting) My friends tell me they are positive they ...

Re: Help! I ran 3 laps at LeMons and killed 3 cylinders!
Also, it's the front 3 cylinders that are the problem, not the back 3 that had the nasty oily broken spark plug wires I mentioned in another thread.

Help! I ran 3 laps at LeMons and killed 3 cylinders!
Help! I ran 3 laps at the 24 Hours of LeMons and now I have a 3-cylinder KLZE! (I've never been on a racetrack before in my life so it's somewhat disappointing that it happened so soon, right as I was getting the feel for the track and the car). (but *before* that we had a very fast car for a "...

Re: '93 GS code reader
Thanks; I know about the paperclip method (I needed to use diagnostic mode to set the timing). I was hoping for something faster/less error prone, since counting a flashing light is easy to get wrong when under pressure to fix an engine problem. I understand the connector is mazda-specific; is it no...

Erratic idle in diagnostic mode
My KLZE normally idles a little rough, but not enough to worry about. When I jump TEN and GND to get diagnostic mode, the engine idles very erratically, slowing down to 600rpm and then jumping to 1500rpm. When I remove the jumper (erm, paper clip), the idle is smooth again (well, relatively smooth, ...

'93 GS code reader
I'm looking for a way to read diagnostic codes on my '93 GS. Local parts stores like Advance Auto will read codes for free, but their readers are typically OBD2-only. 1. Am I correct in believing that this is an OBD1 interface? 2. Is the interface on this vehicle capable of emitting real-time diagno...

Still working on getting the pics uploaded. Latest update: we got the timing set and now engine is nice and smooth! http://mx-3.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?p=551323#p551323" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; And here are some pics from my phone (same as the above post); the spark ...

Re: Mx3 with KLZE swap running rich, afterburn
We found the problem! (Mainly the problem was finding time to find the problem) 1. All three cables on the back plugs were bad and sitting in oil: http://rubystuff.org/mx3/bad_wires/scaled-2010-05-08%2014.24.05.jpg http://rubystuff.org/mx3/bad_wires/scaled-2010-05-08%2014.24.44.jpg (but no oil in th...

Glad you found a seller, ionic. I checked and apparently the circuit board in my switch is snapped in half.

Re: Unknown 1 wire connector?
Can you tell what color the wire is and if it's striped? The wires seem to be very nicely color coded in the mx3 (a welcome change from other cars I've worked on).
