I have done it too and have had no problems. I went to the junkyard and got a shifter for $10. Marked out my measurements and put the shifter in a vise upside down and hit the bottom ontill the ball comes lose, dosent take much. Clean up the bur and slide the ball to the spot you want it then give it a quick braze so the ball dosent move. Done no need to cut and do all this welding. And if you want you can cut some of the top to make it a shorter stick. Hope that helps :D

I dont know if it will fit in a RS I dont see why not its 36% shorter and my friend thats a welder at the Zoo cut it below the ball welded in .9 on an Inch of rod in and grinded it smooth and I have cut the top about an Inch and added a couple of extra threads the weld is strong as hell ;)

Well I'm still not convinced. I know the pacesetter shifter fit both RS and GS but I would like to be sure that this one will fit my car before I buy it.
